...and continuing thoughts from post #14266, looking over at the thread where this had been discussed, it appears that Dean J still has not acknowledged the UVA chapel's Christian imagery...poster maya states "Dean J. An acknowledgment that a large cross (outside the building....meaning a Christian place of worship, not a non-demoninational one representing all religions) and stained glass pictures of Christian prophets make the building a Christian one was all that we were asking for. An inability to acknowledge this makes us rather concerned." So far no response from Dean J...

pamom59, Dean J did acknowledge in the thread started by jara123 in April in the UVa Forum (Surprised and Put Off) that there was religious imagery in some of the stained glass windows. maya54 brought the same issue up again in the Parents Forum with the Colleges You Crossed off thread . jara123 and maya54 have the exact same birthdate in their online profile(October 27,1960).Hmm,wonder if it's the same person? Now this is being brought up in a 3rd thread, this one. Dean J may not even be aware this is being discussed here or may feel she has already responded adequately.

Congrats to those who are happy with the AP scores they have received,
No score report here as of yet. And S2 threw away the student pack booklet with the contact info - because his test proctor told them they did not need to save it! Sigh. Hopefully it will show up in the next few days.

Rockvillemom - we got AP scores today. You should probably have them Monday. Absolutely thrilled with the results!
Oh, could smack D1 she didn't put down the college she will be attending because she was worried she didn't do well. It wouldn't have mattered, she has scores from last year that needed to be sent. So now she did well and I have to pay $15 to send the scores!
Almost done with college shopping. Just a few things that I think one last Target run will accomplish! How is everyone else doing?
I need to gear up for D2, she is starting her Junior year...not sure if I have it in me right now. Maybe after D1 is moved into the dorm.

My D2 and I have not done any pre-college shopping yet...I'm feeling more relaxed about the process the second time around, plus it also helps to know that D2 will be only 15 min away from home so if there is something forgotten or that needs to be purchased it will not be a big issue. That said, I am starting a list of things we need to buy:
laptop (found out that school has a discount program through which we can purchase)
bedding (hmm...she can't seem to find anything she likes better than the old stuff she is currently using on her bed at home that is full of holes)
new backpack (though she says she wants to keep on using the one she's had since 5th grade- maybe I can duct tape up the holes lol)
clothes
school supplies
etc.
D2 just took her placement tests (today was the last day) and has orientation Mon/Tues; I'm hoping that it will get her in the mood to go shopping for all the stuff she needs!

Did receive the AP score report in the mail today - but somehow it was not marked to be sent to Elon - although he swears he filled the info in on the answer sheet - so just spent the $15 to have the scores sent.
We did a Target/BB&B run last week - pretty good in that dept. So much easier with boys - although he wanted to come with me - he spent less than two seconds per item - so not sure why he needed to bother. Let's just say that having his stuff match and coordinate was not a priority.
On a more interesting note - he has mentioned several times that he wants to go clothing shopping before leaving for school. Apparently the shorts and t-shirts that were the staple of his hs wardrobe need some upgrading. Should prove interesting. I'm not even sure where to take him! The trendy teen stores at the mall scare me - I may need to do some advance scouting at Kohls. Old Navy? Gap? Macy's? What's a good store for a teenaged boy that won't deafen or bankrupt me?

Here Aeorpostle is usually reasonably priced and trendy. American Eagle is a favorite but sales are a must. We started shopping at these stores because they and Target are among the few stores that have pants and shorts that will fit lean young men. Most other stores we have searched the waist size begins at 30.
(I haven't found either of these stores deafening)

My sons love JCrew....if there is an outlet near you, the prices are good. And my boys know to go straight to the discount tables/racks in the back!

Thanks for the congrats and the same to everyone else! Good info on the slim waisted pants. DS is very slim and has a hard time finding pants. I will check out those stores for him.
BTW, how does it work with sending AP scores? He is a rising senior and has only taken one AP (so far). Does he send it to all colleges to which he is applying, or just to the one he will attend after he deposits?

Do you only have to send AP scores in after taking them senior year?
& Please somebody answer mine (if you can, of course): University of Miami Scholarships |
