Do kids HAVE to apply online only?

My D was noodling around on the PSU Web site yesterday and could not seem to find a place where she can simply download and print out a copy of the PSU application to look at. Is applying online (and thus, creating the MyPennState log in) the only option here? She plans to submit some of her apps online, but first is printing them out so she can look at them carefully in advance, as well as plan how many essays and short answers she needs to write. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

You can definitely print it out but I do recall it being tricky. Just did it last week for my D. I will go back and try to find the link for you. It has quite a few pages because there are lots of instructions and codes. However, the application looks very straightforward once you get past all the directions.

Hi NMR,
It's been a year--where did that time go?--but I know D did not print anything out and she did apply online to PSU because when we visited they said they STRONGLY encouraged it. It was one of the few she applied to online. As for the application online, I recall once she registered for it, she could get onto each page and take a look and complete it at her leisure! I also don't think there was an essay required, although there was an optional one, so D wrote one for it. Figured why not give the application her best shot. She was accepted for MT, as you know. Would most likely be at PSU right now if we hadn't just returned from dropping her off at Elon!!! If I can be of any help this year, please let me know!

nydancemom, thanks AGAIN! This is so helpful. I will tell D to just go ahead and register and fill the thing out online. (By the way, I am sure I am not the only one who would love to hear an update on your D and how things are going at Elon, once she gets settled! Congrats again on her amazing and impressive successes during the audition season. It's lovely that she did so well and that now you and her dad can -- presumably! -- relax a little bit. )

Found it. Your D must log onto My Penn State first as though she were going to apply online. Once logged in, you will see "print an application" in the right navigation. Click there and you can print out an advance copy of the application with directions she can then use to apply online.

My D is a freshman MT at PSU and also did her entire app online. I also do not remember any required essays except for the honors college, and I would reccommend your child apply for that ASAP as well as get the application in if he/she is interested. My D is a member of the honors college as well as pursuing a BFA in MT so if anyone has any ?s pm me. I understand that they alaready have quite a lot of slots taken for auditions, first time they filled a date before school even started so the most important thing your kids need to do is call and get an audition date soon! Apparently they are filling up quicker than ever before. She is so excited and thrilled to be there.
