Got my deferral, praying for acceptance

Hi, I'm a self-described white, short girl with short curly light brown hair with an old-fashioned 40's character look with a belt and operatic lyric soprano voice who loves to audition.

I fell in love with PSU and the MT program when I auditioned on-campus December 5th. Everything about the audition was absolutely surreal. The students were all so kind, and took time to talk to us about the program and why they loved PSU. Cary Libkin is an astounding person, with many unbelievably talented faculty. I had a chance to interview with them, and I think we all had a great experience. I got a deferral letter a few weeks later, and I really really really hope I get an acceptance letter in early March!

Good luck SA. My daughter wasn't really familiar with the program but did a walk-in in LA. She was so impressed with Cary Libkin that she rushed home to research the school and is very impressed with the program. She just applied last week and is hoping for the best. It is definitely one of the top schools on her list so we are keeping our fingers crossed. Good luck again!!!

My son got a deferral letter today. He was at the Chciago unifieds. So I guess this means he is still under consideration. Will take it as something to hope for!!!

Good luck everyone. We are crossing our fingers. We know someone who is a freshman and absolutely loves it. I wish we had found out about the program sooner- I don't know if being a walk-in and getting your application in late hurts your chances or not. It definitely slows down the whole application process. Anyway, it looks like a great program!

I know that being a late walk in does not hurt your chances at all. They love who they love regardless of when and where. What is your friend's initials? I am sure my D knows them. The program is so small, they all know each other!

Thanks Jacksdad- it looks like a great program! My D will almost certainly be going back to visit the school and sit in on some classes. We are just hoping she would be able to transfer in as a junior. Penn is definitely one of her top choices!

takeitallin.....when my s auditioned last year at PSU, I met a family whose daughter was auditioning and trying to transfer in as a junior from Boston University. When asking the questions in the open parent session, they were told that if she was accepted, she would still have to do 4 years at PSU because even though her Gen Ed credits might transfer, the curriculum was set for a 4 year program for MT BFA.

It might be worth looking into. It seems that many of the BFA programs are set up that way and most of them you can find the curriculum layout on their websites.

One of the nice advantages might be that she could transfer all her GE credits in and that would make the work load much lighter!

We realize that may be the case with a lot of programs. UCLA is also one of her top choices, and one advantage there is that she could go in as a junior. Of course they are only going to be accepting "less than 3 transfer students" so her chances are not great.

This time last year, Carey Lipkin said that he and his staff would "set the class" on the day following the last audition date (which I believe was Feb 28th last year). By the end of the week, the letters were sent out. Good luck to everyone
