I had my audition at PPU this weekend. During the Q&A session someone asked how many are they looking to accept.

45 Musical Theatre Majors
35 Acting Majors
20 Technical Theatre Majors



I auditioned for their acting program, so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Just now read your post. My answer is not from a very scientific source, but 2 years ago when my daughter auditioned at PPU, some PPU students walked by the assembly room and shouted in, "Only 10 percent of you are going to make it!"

I just learned that from PPU's 1st audition on 11/10 (?) 3 boys and 1 girl were offered a spot for next year's MT class.

I also posted this so that, with those numbers in mind, those other few students who received word that they are deferred/waitlisted for now should be really proud of themselves!

I'm not sure if you remember me...I was wearing the black argile sweater, and you and I talked about the CMU audition as the Point Park audition was coming to a close How did you find out these numbers???

You are confused svb.....MTgrlsmom posted in 2007 and her D is already in college. This is an old thread that was resurrected.

Littlemermaid....I don't know that PP has "cuts" but the way it works, I believe, at PP is that freshmen enter as BA majors and not really directly into the BFA. After the first year, I think, you have to be selected to progress into the BFA track. It is a little misleading or should I say, a common misconception, that you are auditioning to enter a BFA and are admitted to a BFA because you have to start at PP in the BA track first and later be admitted into the BFA track.

Ahhhh thank you soozievt! And you are correct about Point Park; you have to auditioned for your BFA at the end of your freshman year. So you enter the school pursuing a BA. Im not sure of how many they let pursue their BFA.

as far as i know... and i could be wrong. but a friend of mine who attends PP and is a graduating senior this year stated something about auditioning for BFA after sophmore year.. I might have misunderstood.
None the less it is sort of a misconception, but you figure 1. if you got in to BA program from auditioning that you obviously have some talent. 2. when it comes to auditioning for BFA IF you've applied what you've learned over the year, and you work really hard you shouldn't have a problem getting into BFA...
I have my audition Feb 28... excited.

Since Point Park has auditions all the way through April, do the March and April people auditioning still stand a chance at an open slot?

They only have so many slots to fill. Every year is different as far as talent and they seem to be adding more and more slots every year. If they have some applicants who are questionable, they may wait to accept those students until after all auditions are over and then if they find more qualified applicants in the later auditions, those will be accepted instead. My daughter has a male friend who auditioned in April and was accepted into the program with no problem; it's tougher for girls because the competition is greater. Good luck, it's a great school!!! My daughter is a musical theatre/dance minor senior this year and has learned so much at Point Park to perfect her craft. They offer many opportunities for all students.
