If you audition at point park, and your acting/singing are solid, but dance is ehhh, and you try to fake it at least as best as possible, is there still a chance of being admitted? (this is without having dance in 4 years)--musical theatre

I think dance is pretty important at Point Park, although of course there's always a chance...

I auditioned there last year, and have just recently begun lurking on CC again after a 5 months haitus. The dance combo was very standard in ballet. Id reccomend taking classes from now till your auditions, just to get yourself back into the swing of things. If you can't, just go over your combinations and standard ballet terminology. From what i remember it was tombe pas de boure glissad jete pas de chat pas de chat... like that was the exact combo (forgive my french spelling and all that)! At my audition there was only one girl who was really great at dancing, i did okay just because i got the combo. right away, and everyone else looked a hot mess. If you are okay at faking, id say theres a chance, but if it is at all possible try to take a few classes.

i am def. better at jazz and tap than ballet :-XXXXXXX lol. I mean i haven't taken sinc e8th grade but i remember everything. i took ballet twice (for a s ummer institute) and all i remember is "grand gete! gete!" or however you spell it haha

tell me if you think this is weird: i know a person who goes (or went) to point park, and he said guys are in super high demand. If you can't dance well they'll cut you slack as long as you're fine in the other fields, so he says.

butttt...how many people does copa even accept from its auditionees anyhooo?

I can't speak for Point Park but perhaps your friend from there is making a point that is often made about BFA in MT programs in general......it is "easier" for guys to be admitted than girls (but NOT easy), because there are less boys auditioning for these programs than girls and there are often an equal number of slots afforded to males in the admitted classes and actually at some schools (ex., CMU), even more slots are allocated for males than females. Thus, one could conclude that the odds for a boy to get into a BFA program are better than for a girl.

As far as not dancing well.....most BFA programs will consider you if you are strong in two areas and weaker in a third but the weak area can't be voice. So, some who have little dance training may get in if they are excellent at voice and acting. However, those with the best shot are good at all three skills. If you have no dance training, get into a ballet class and even if you are not great at dance, you will come off better in the audition to have some technique and to also be used to picking up combinations and moving with your body. You are going to have to learn to dance anyway in college and if you want to go into this field, start with learning the necessary skills now....not just to get into college, but to become a MT performer. Jazz is also good to take since jazz is in most college auditions and it is good to be able to be comfortable picking up combinations quickly.

PS....it is good to know the ballet terminology so when instructions are given, you know which moves they mean. By the way, it is JETE, not GETE. I don't know how to make the French accent marks on my keyboard, however.

otherwise, does anybody know the specifics of how many people at least for this year were accepted versus howmany auditioned?

Thank you all for your responses! I'm now figuring out if I'm good enough to get in haha I've done extra acting classes but not dance (Argh) so we will see...

in the meantime, anybody else have any luck so far?

My D was in the very first group that auditioned this past fall. If I remember correctly approximately, 36 auditioned for MT that day, 3 boys and 1 girl were accepted.

Haha, that gives me some hope. Did your daughter get in? Wow, it's weird they accepted more boys than girls haha. I find that interesting.

I did hear they accept overall, for a class, 20 boys/20 girls, and way more girls audition?

In addition to MTgrlsmom, they have accepted at least 2 other girls (from the December audition)...and maybe more, but I know of those 2 for sure.

yay!! That is wonderful haha it makes me feel like I might have a chance.
I know they have a really big MT class compared to most other schools (which have ike 10-15.)
