Last year parents and students were told at the information session before the audition, that students who scored an A on their audition would be offered scholarships and students who scored a bit lower(A- or B, sorry can't remember which, just that it was lower than the A needed for scholarships) would be offered apprenticeships, where the students have to work to earn the money that is alotted to them.

I do not remember the exact grading system, but that is how it was explained to us a couple of years ago when my daughter received her scholarship. Scholarships for top scoring and apprenticeships for those just under that level. Good luck!

Jhaskins26. Congratulations! Did you apply as a MT major and dance minor? How many extra hours/semesters are required if any?

Has anyone made a campus visit to Point Park since being accepted? If so, what were your impressions? My son has been accepted into MT and will be making the trip in April. We're trying to fit 3 school visits into one trip and the scheduling has been tough.

We visited last June. It's a high-rise school, kind of like Emerson is. You could spend a week eating, sleeping, and going to classes and never go outside. It's in downtown Pittsburgh, not a bad area, and walking distance to some interesting stuff. Pittsburgh is a great city, lots of theater and other activities for the college crowd. The dorm rooms we saw were pretty small.

Hi,
we just visited over break and yes PP is located in the center of downtown Pittsburg. Very close to everything. We arranged a visit with admissions and the MT Dept. our son viewed 3 classes, we talked to his admission person and fin. aid person. We took a tour. And were treated to lunch in the Caf...
We recieved 4 comp tickets to see PP production of Assassin's and thought it was a great show and really cast well. The dorms were very small and old. . we found everyone very helpful. All of there productions are off campus at a Theater a few miles away but they have a bus that goes back and forth continually. The bus driver was very nice and helpful. The dance class was very intense...no slackers allowed...They had a health office available on site too. The buildings are connected so in the winter there is no need to go outside.
We enjoyed the school and felt if this is the school our son picks it's OK with us. However, It seems like he is leaning a different direction. But, if a city school is what you are looking for PP seems like a good choice. We especially liked it after seeing Assassins...the kids were really talented and it impressed us and our son... I don't know why but we weren't expecting such a great show...with such wonderful acting and voices.

Keep trying to contact the MT Dept about viewing Classes and contact admissions about a tour.

Thanks for all of the info momfor2. We had never heard of PP until the Unified auditions in LA. My D was able to do a walk-in audition, and then apply for admission afterward. She was accepted into MT with a nice financial package. She has really researched the school and is impressed with the program, as she was w/ the representatives at the audition.

However we have never seen the campus so are a bit hesitant about the whole thing. She definitely is a big city kind of girl so would probably enjoy. She's also considering BoCo and Emerson, but the additional cost over PP is HUGE!

Your detailed review really helps since we are unable to visit the campus in the near future. Thanks!

Regarding Point Park: We live in Pittsburgh, we see a lot of shows there, and we follow the student actors and faculty who act in the community. My son applied there, was accepted, and received a nice scholarship. I would be happy to answer any questions about PPU, and I have posted on PPU here before. Please e-mail me!

BTW, my son has decided to go elsewhere, and is about to notify them of his decision.

In sum: The faculty act in shows all around Pittsburgh, and they are amazing. Some students are seen frequently, too, and some are phenomenal. The directors and other theater staff around town love to work with PPU faculty and staff. If you want to be on stage, PPU might be the place for you as students begin auditioning for school shows in their sophomore year and may audition for any community shows that do not conflict with their school obligations.

The campus has been accurately described by those above me on the thread. Yes, the dorms are old--not all rooms are small, though--it depends on which ones you're looking at. Some are air-conditioned, too! The dance studios are wonderful. They're new this year. Note that many students move off-campus after freshman year, probably living in Oakland, where the U of Pittsburgh and CMU students live. The areas in which you will be spending time are OK in terms of safety if you are a little careful. The theater is fine, too, and the opportunities to see and participate in theater in Pittsburgh are nice. Pittsburgh is VERY manageable in terms of getting around. It is small-ish and there are plenty of buses.

Note that the school does not have a stellar reputation academically, and if that is a consideration, take a look. Certainly the performing arts program is well-known and considered favorably. They have just started an MFA program. I do not know how they are doing with getting students, but be sure to ask if it is their design to have MFA students teach the BFA students at some point.

Good luck with your decisions! If you need some help with anything Pittsburgh, let me know!
