Accepted students day April 4th

Hi everyone. I just want to let you know if anyone is going to accepted students day on April 4th, try to get tickets to the Rocky Horror Musical- their latest play. I got tickets for Sunday matinee and there weren't too many left. Try the admissions office to see if they have put any tickets aside for perspective students. I would love to meet anyone who is going. PM me if you are planning on it!

What happens on that day? Trying to weigh the expense when we have already gone to campus for the actual audition. Thanks for any feedback.

I don't understand how an accepted students day is as early as April 4 when the admissios notifications have not all gone out yet. Does not leave much time to plan to travel.

They sent the invites to all of the kids who were rec'd academic acceptance. I don't quite 'get it' either.

I agree soozievt! It sounds like a great time to visit the school. However...we are STILL waiting to hear the results from way back at Chicago unifieds. Even the sad news of a rejection would at least give some closure ....UGH

This is a noon to 4:15 program on April 4th or April 18. Both Saturdays (the 18th is also accepted students day at Muhlenberg). PPU accepts rsvp online at www.pointpark.edu/acceptedstudents by the friday before, the 3rd or the 17th.
The students get to have a class with other incoming students, meet present students and professors and university administrators. For parents you can meet other parents and university personnel and discuss the college transition experiences for your kids, get answers to your questions and learn what support organizations are available for your students. On the 4th, Rocky Horror just happens to be presented on their mainstage.
We are torn between this program and a regular 4 year BA program so it will give us another opportunity to check it out.
For all of you still waiting for answers, my fingers and toes are crossed for you!!

My d auditioned there last week and we were able to find out that she got in by viewing the "last contact" info on the admissions status page. If it says Theatre scholarship letter sent--you have been accepted. I called to verify that this was the case. I'm sure that there are still decisions pending but that is one thing to check.

That being said, my guess is that more than ever colleges are using "accepted student days" to try and gauge what their yeild might be of accepted students. When we were there for the audition the students had a tour. I'm not sure if this day includes the opportunity to view actual classes. Does anyone know? I am still trying to figure out what the calibre of the program is. We saw a production of "Parade" and to be honest it was better than the production of "Two Gentlemen of Verona" that we saw at CCM. So, how does one know? I would also say that in our case Point Park has been extremely generous with the financial aid--big academic scholarship and talent scholarship and community service award and the school itself is less expensive than many others.

I would love to hear about what other people know.

I called Point Park a few days ago because I auditioned at NY Unifieds on January 31st. They said they have STILL not finished going through everyone from Unifieds and to 'hang in there'. They said if you have not heard from them yet and you auditioned at Unifieds it does not mean that you were rejected, they just haven't gone through everyone yet. I just think it's crazy that people who auditioned less than a week ago already know! It's awesome for them, but it stinks for those of us who auditioned two months ago

I'm usually pretty private about identities, but am anxious to hear how Rocky goes! My S is Rocky!! We were planning to go this weekend to see it my my DH had emergency surgery today and we are cancelling our plans

. Hopefully I'll be able to get out there to see it before it closes!

Rocky Horror is NOT appearing on the Main Stage (Rockwell) on April 4th, it is in the Rauh Theatre which seats around 300. It is a much smaller, intimate theatre which is perfect for that particular show.
Thanks seamom for your kudos about "Parade" - it's nice to hear how PPU shows compare to CCM. My D is a senior and that was her last performance on the Rockwell Stage - I, too, thought the production was outstanding theatre; it was just a sample of the productions that are done at Point Park. I've seen eleven shows since my daughter has been attending PPU (she was in six of them) and each and every one of them has been wonderful. She has performed in the Rauh, the Rockwell, and the Studio theatre!!! There are a lot of talented students at Point Park and the University uses them well.
The other great thing is that PPU always brings in directors from New York to do at least one show a year. Last year, my D had the opportunity to work with Tome Cousin and he brought in the original cast from "Thou Shalt Not." It was an incredible experience for the cast members to meet them.

Congratulations PPUMTMom. We loved the show and it really swayed my daughter to choose Point Park. Who was your daughter in the show? The other thing I would offer is that the students we met at Point Park were extraordinarily nice. They went out of their way to be helpful and supportive and as many of you know that goes along way at those stressful auditions. This was my daughter's last audition of six and she has chosen this school because it felt right being there and with a little encouragement due to its affordability. It's nice to hear such enthusiasm from another parent about their child's experience. I will say that the chain gang scene in Parade was good enough to have been on Broadway. It was amazing. My D was Iola Stover in "Parade." Iola was one of the factory worker girls, she was the one on the witness stand. They seem to cast their leads from the junior class for some reason; last year, as a junior, she was cast in two leading roles. They seem to go for the way you look and how you fit the part (which is how it is in the professional world). Unfortunately, there are some students at PPU who have never been cast in anything because they don't fit the parts. Another thing for MT and Acting students to strive for is the Senior Showcase. My daughter made it for both the L.A. and NYC Showcases and will be traveling to those two cities in May to audition for agents. This year they picked 14 for NYC and out of those, 11 of them are also going to L.A. They auditioned 64 seniors in the MT and Acting majors. You can read about the Showcase on the PPU Web at Conservatory Showcase 2008 - Point Park University - copy and paste the link - it's pretty hard to find on the PPU Web without it. If your D is a dancer, tell her to look into a dance minor, my D did that because she had 15 years of dance prior to PPU and she's so glad she did. Congratulations to your D, I hope she has a wonderful experience at this wonderful school.

PPUMTmom- I did not see the show, but a friend of mine who lives in Pittsburgh did and he keeps telling me how amazing the girl is that played Iola Stover, he said she stole the show for him and was remarkable. Congrats! Your daughter must be amazingly talented
