Congrats to everyone! I just got more money from PPU too. I think it's because after doing the FAFSA, the gov't definitely will NOT give us money. oh well...

WHO else has gotten in for Musical Theatre @ PPU?! I have and would love to talk to some ppl.

I auditioned in December, didn't get to see any musicals b/c I missed Hair. (Heard it was great.) Has anyone seen their shows? I went to the ballet Cinderella and then saw Miss Saigon at Pittsburgh Musical Theatre when I can back for the Prez Scholarship Competition in Jan 06. (It had some ppl from COPA, & COPA grads in it.)

any additional comments on Point Park?

I'm curious as to what the vocal instruction is like. Very MT based, or classical? And is the only instruction the voice lessons or is there some in various classes? From what I saw of the classes, it seemed like the voice lessons were really the only focus on voice.

Im a junior now, ill be doing visits this summer and Point Park is definetly on my list. I live less then an hour from Pittsburgh and, although I want to move away, I would make an exception to go to Point Park. I love the environment in downtown and a just get a really good vibe from the school. Also, after getting my SAT scores from december, they sent me a letter saying i would probably be able to take one of their Merit scholarships. It's nice to know that I shouldnt have a problem getting into the school itself, now im able to concentrate on what i want to do and auditions if i decide to go that way

Hi, my daughter is auditioning in December for the MT conservatory. Do you have any suggestions as to clothing as far as style, color and accessories?

My d auditioned for PPU on Nov 11th and she wore a solid color wrap dress and heels and very little in the accessory department. If you do a search on cc there are plenty of posts about what would be appropriate to wear but I have to say that my d has been to 3 auditions now and we have seen all types of outfit selections from dresses to skirts to jeans or even dance clothes. Most girls have either black dress pants or black skirts and blouses. In terms of color, I would pick something that looks great on your daughter.

I talked to a mom who posts on here who's daughter is now at CMU for MT and she wore jeans. So truthfully, if you are just that good...it doesn't matter what you wear!

There was a couple of things about PPU that were not posted in the information we got about the audition. First your d will take a music theory written test. This is only for placement upon acceptance so nothing to worry about...just do what you can do. My suggestion, don't cheat! There were kids there texting people for answers which certainly won't help them if they do get in and get placed in a harder theory class! Your d will also have to dance. I know it says in the info that only those called back will dance, but they actually had all kids auditioning learn a dance combination.

Then a call back list gets posted and you are either released or asked to stay for a class. The weekend my d was there 4 girls were called back and 6 guys!

How long is the ppu MT audition? any particulars appreciated

It started at 9 am for Registration. The morning went until about 12:15 or so (the group dance audition was the last part of the morning), and they posted a callback list at 1 PM. They called back 10 out of (I think) 24. The callback consisted of a class during which they worked with the students individually on their audition material in a workshop format. I think it was over by about 2:30. They had a tour at the end for those that were interested; we didn't go on that as we had visited previously.

My d may be auditioning for Point Park for musical theater. The website said that the first audition consists of a one-minute monologue and a one-minute song. After that, they post a call-back list to take the musical theater workshop and audition. How tough are they about the first part (the two minutes)? Could you sense if it was meant to take only the top few of that group, or was it meant to sift out the people who really don't belong there and might be auditioning just as a lark? Two minutes seems very scanty for a musical theater audition. At any rate, my d will probably audition at the Unified Auditions rather than in Pittsburgh. It seemed like very far to go for a two-minute audition.
Thanks for any info, and if you can tell me anything else about the school, I'd appreciate it. How are the teachers, especially in acting and singing? Are the BFA students friendly and supportive to each other? And, what kind of performance opportunities are there in the first one or two years?
