my grandma went to pomona

Possible majors: econometrics, govt/polisci, econ, applied math (but overall, i am unsure)

Academics: 3.98 (out of 4), 4.69 weighted (out of 5, but not all classes are available for honors)....county doesn't rank classes

Freshman year: all honors, all As
Soph year: all honors and AP Gov(5) (only available AP), all As

Junior yr: full IB and AP BC calc. all As, will take exams in IB Psych, IB Span, AP Psych, AP BC calc, AP Lang

Sr yr: I will take 6 IBs and MVC. I will test in IB English, HL math, History, and Physics. I will take AP exams in Spanish Lang, euro history

Test scores:
SAT: took once, 2310: 800m, 760cr, 750w
Subject tests: took us history and math2, got 720 and 700, but I am going to take Math2, Physics again.
PSAT:221, the NMS hasnt come out yet
Extracurriulars (including next year)
4 yrs varsity baseball, will be captain as senior. club teams in offseason since age 9 or 10

This includes volunteering teaching english in the Dominican republic, singing at a mental hospital, forest conservation in florida, many small events, and a leadership and service program where I attend seminars with local leaders and then design and implement a 200 hr service project; I am going to run a baseball camp attached to a DC Public Schools Summer School

my teacher recs will probably be solid. I plan to write about the design-your-own service project, because it is pretty unique

You look like you'd be a good prospect for Pomona. Just make sure you let them know you really are a good fit in your essays. Visit or do some kind of interview if you can. Good luck.

As others have said, chancing colleges like Pomona is a bit of a crap shoot. If you look at the accepted threads over the years, you'll find folks with lower numbers than yours getting in and higher than yours being denied. Take a look at the "inferiority" thread to get a sense of the importance of "fit." That being said, if you'd like to continue playing baseball in college (Pomona has a very good team), you might want to contact Coach Pericolosi. Being a good athlete won't get someone into Pomona who shouldn't have been there in the first place, but admissions might consider a student who has learned to excel in both academics and athletics a better "fit" than someone who is "merely" an excellent student.

I second otisp's post: contact the coach, send film, visit if possible. If your academic record continues to be excellent, you have a good chance, but having special talents can help your application stand out. Meet the coach, ask him to support your application. Don't be shy about this; it really can help. Good luck!

So, apparently Pomona LOVES the IB I was accepted with a (slightly) lower GPA (4.3) and (significantly) lower SATs (2040). Your stats are clearly great, full IB will help you (yay! remember that when you are regretting doing diploma next year—it will be worth it!), your ECs look good. Your essays will be of utmost importance. I think you have a solid shot, but a school as small as Pomona is looking at building a class, so while you are clearly qualified, you can't be sure of getting in, which is why having a good list is so important. Feel free to PM me if you'd like advice constructing a list of schools to apply to (I did a ridiculous amount of research and helped a lot of friends with this)

You sound like a very well qualified applicant. Beyond that, it will be all about the elusive "fit." Try to visit/interview at Pomona, review your essays early and often (and have fun with the Pomona supplement!), and keep your senior year grades up. Good luck!
