ED2: does it really help?

Does anyone have statistics for Pomona's use of ED2? The most recent common data set puts ED admissions at 130 acceptances out of an eventual total of 981 acceptances. There's no breakdown that shows how many applied for ED and ED2, and how many got in through those options. (This data is from the year prior to last year's, when ED apps went up by 20% at Pomona.)

Aside from data, I'd also be happy to hear anecdotes, speculation, what-have-you, about whether ED2 offers greater odds of admission to Pomona. (And is the advantage a lot less than ED1, but still more than RD?) I've always dismissed it. To me, it seems silly to bind oneself to a college without the obvious advantage of ED1: not having to complete all those other applications. But now I'm wondering if it might make sense for a student who loves Pomona, but who has at least one other reach school that is a good candidate for an early app. What have you alll experienced?

same question, will broaden the scope to any feedback on ED2 at other LACs, as well.

Generally speaking, but not set in stone, the percentage of ED students accepted is greater than the percentage accepted for RD. Because of caveats, finaid being foremost, fewer students apply ED; however, Pomona has the reputation of being generous regardless of which application route you choose. If there is one particular school that is #1 in your eyes (above all others), then I would encourage you to apply ED. An ED app demonstrates your commitment to that school, and that definitely counts for something.

Good luck!

I agree with Little Mother.

Our daughter applied ED2 to Pomona, and while I'm not sure to what extent it played a part in her successful application, as a solid demonstration of commitment it certainly didn't hurt.

Best of luck!

Bump is a word posters use in order to "bump" the thread back up to the top of the list to keep it current. The minimum number of characters (char) a post may have is 10. So they sometimes add "10 char" to a post that is too short -- like the word "bump"!
