is a 690 CR a really big turn off?

is a 690 CR a really big turn off? by the way, i'm from Canada, is that an advantage or disadvantage? I mean my country is overrepresented at some schools, is it the case at Pomona? the college only has 6% internationals so i'm guessing its ultra-competitive.

I think its definitely an advantage - you are still international in their mind and statistically. The school itself has extremely competitive admissions though, even as a liberal arts college. Pomona has unusually high test averages, so this might be a turnoff, but you are still well within their testing range. Do keep in mind though that Liberal arts colleges tend to have higher CR averages than Math averages. This could either make you more appealing (in terms of a higher math score) or less appealing with a "good, but just ok" 690 CR.

Considering that 25% of the admitted class has an 800 CR, a 690 could indeed be a turn-off. However, it is a small factor when considered with the rest of your application.

If you can improve it, why not? I did the same with my writing, bringing it from 680 to 750.

Most colleges have a Common Data Set. There you can see rates of admissions, average indebtedness at graduation, test scores, minority enrollment, etc. Below is the link to the Pomona CDS. If the link doesn't already bring you to tab C, look at the bottom edge of the page and choose the one for admissions:

i don't know. I am fundamentally sound in math and a little iffy in language since Eng's my second language. But this year, i really lost my interest in math and sciences. I am now more interested in social sciences and english literature. I guess i can only hope for the best. I have 800 M in SAT 1, 760 in SAT 2 Math 2, and 770 in SAT physics. Should i also take a history subject test?
