Pre-Med Extracurriculars in High School?

I am a senior who is set to enter college in the fall of this year. My goal is to go to medical school so I am starting to prepare myself and become familiar with the extracurriculars and classes I need to take.

My question is, do any medical-related extracurriculars that I did in high school count towards my medical school admission? Read: Would I put it on my application?

I have had 50+ hours of shadowing doctors, 100+ hours volunteering in a hospital, and I have been on a 2 week trip overseas that involved research, volunteer work, and clinical experience. I know I have the next 4 years to add to this list but I think it give me a head start if I could include this in my application.

Thanks to all in advance.

Unfortunately, nothing you do in high school matters when the medical school application cycle comes around. Doesn't mean you should stop doing it though.

Interesting. Would anything I do this summer count, such as shadowing/internship at hospital? If I return to the country where I did research prior to do a follow-up, would I be able to somehow include what I did in high school?

Thanks again.

I understand that what I do in high school does not count. That is over with. I do not see why nothing I do this summer counts towards medical school application.

heatfan, I agree with what the others have said but .......if you do continue something from high school into your college years it would be quite normal to mention it in your personal statement. "The smell reminded me of the first time I was in Curmudgeonville. I was in high school and I was in shock." Hit it and move on. Nobody will ding you for that. But don't use it in your line items.
