low gpa freshman year...need advice

I just finished my freshman year at georgia tech and i have a cumulative gpa of about a 2. i realize that this is an absolutely horrible start and it is going to take tons and tons of work to get out of hole i put myself in and that will be just to even compete with other applicants. not to mention i need to find something that will separate me from them.

so i started off as a biology major when I really should have been undecided. My dad is a doctor and he kind of convinced me to try it even though I never took Ap biology and while i liked it, i was never really very good at it. As im sure some of you know, they say georgia tech isnt the best place for pre-med students because most classes have low gpas and that will hurt those students who are pre-med. well after my first year i have realized that i need to switch my major and retake intro to bio and inorganic chemistry.

i am considering switching to biomedical engineering. and while I know it will be very tough, i feel that i could do better because i really cannot see myself doing better in classes like ecology as opposed to BMED classes or calc 3. Also, i have read that bmed applicants to medical school have higher acceptance rates with lower gpas, probably because their courseload is so rigorous.

another option i am considering is switching to Industrial engineering. It comes a lot easier to me and while id rather be a biomedical engineer, i wouldnt mind beign industrial and if it helps me reach my main goal, which is being a doctor, i am thinking it may be a better option.

so basically i need some advice. If i got a C in a pre-med prereq, i should try and retake it because i am a hardworker i just really let the influence of others effect me this year and i didnt take studying too seriously. my counselor said i shouldnt retake them becuase med schools will only count the first grade, but i have read that it is advised to retake such classes. so basically i am wondering what are my best options now?

sorry for such a long post i hope you guys can understand what im trying to say.

Wait, do you really want to be a doctor, or are you just going premed mainly because of your dad?

I guess first answer that above question.

I would maybe advise Industrial more than BME mainly because BME at Georgia Tech is pretty hard. Last I heard it was ranked like 3 for undergrad BME. It's good, but will be hard.

i really want to be a doctor. Its not because he pushed me into it, but I have wanted to become one since i was little and I have always loved to follow him around the hospital or sit and help out in his office for a day and ive shadowed other doctors too and i really do love it.

the only thing he pushed me into is majoring in bio becuase at that time i was trying to decide between a science or engineering.

and ya tech is ranked 3 in bme, but 1 in industrial. BME is definitley harder though, i just think i would like it more.
