Finding a PAID job as a first year pre-med student in the local hospital

Its very difficult for me to find a paid job as a sitter, EMT, or anything of the sorts at my local hospitals. Does anyone have any other suggestions for jobs that I could get paid for that would give me experience at the same time? I was thinking of e-mailing some of the doctors and asking them if they needed help with office work or something.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'd be very surprised if you could find a paid job. You have no training or background, so there's no reason to pay you.

BAH! I went for patient transporter and was slammed with failure because they wanted a "permanent" employee...not a temporary summer employee :-/

Good luck, though. I hope you find something.

Yeah, LouieCope08 that's what happened with me too...I think I might go back and try to "guarantee" them I'll work for 4 years, whenever I'm home too.

Yeah, well you're gonna have to get used to that - there are really no seasonal jobs in healthcare. If you want to work in the hospital, you're going to have to commit to working during the school year.

I worked as a nurses aid, and later as a unit clerk while in undergard before medical school. I had a nurses aid ("CNA") credential from what used to be called a "vocational" ( as opposed to "academic") high school program.

I would take some time and get some certifications before you apply, unless like previously said, you can get a job at a patient transporter. I got my ACLS, BLS, and CNA and then worked at Vandy's hospital my soph yr in ICU, and now I'm working at a dif hospital where I currently live in NV. Most hospitals, unless it's like a kitchen worker, volunteer, or transporter, require some sort of certs for them to be able to hire you. (EMT would be great)

Best of luck!

We have special program for pre-meds at local Med. School. You work at Med. research lab. The time is very stringent. I believe, it has to be 10 weeks. The work is hard, they say 8 hours, while actually it is more like 10. Pay is very good. Check out something like this.
