If you have interest in working with animals, you should definitely volunteer in the shelter since the whole point of having animal experience is to find out if you fit in that career field. So why dont you volunteer, attend orientation and find out?

I would rsvp them on the day would accept it becuz its hard to get a spot in the animal shelter(at least in orange county CA) I have tried for the third time but i still could not get a spot for me..

It really depends on which shelter you volunteer at. At one place I used to volunteer, most of the time, I socialized with the dogs and cats. I did clean the cages and the floors sometimes. In the other shelter which I am volunteering now, there is a variety of ways you can volunteer: walking dogs, becoming foster parents, fundraising for the shelter, going to offsite events, and also volunteering at the veterinary clinic within the shelter if available. It is a really fun experience and I love dedicating my time volunteering at the shelter.

I don't volunteer at a shelter so I can't quite answer your question but j just wanted to point out that there is a LOT you can do other then shelter volunteering.
I foster parrots, volunteer at a therapeutic horse farm, an will hopefully raise seeing eye dogs.
So although shelter volunteering is nice keep in mind you can do more creative and unique things too!

If you enjoy working with animals, then I definitely recommend volunteering at a shelter. I volunteer in my city's SPCA. It's a great experience.
I'm a dog volunteer and I help with a lot of things. I socialize the puppies and walk the dogs. I've also taken dog training classes for volunteers, so we give the dogs obedience training. I also have the chance to help adopters and introduce them to the dogs at the shelter.
I'm taking the cat volunteer classes next year, so I'll be able to work with the cats as well!

You do a lot of things, but you start out cleaning (lots of it) and socializing with the animals. You get to participate in events and adoptions, you can do phone calls and et cetera. It all depends on what animal shelter you apply to.
