Hello,

I want to go to both graduate school (Zoology) and vet school (zoo medicine, as well as internship, residency, and board certification). I am concerned about the order I should complete these degrees and if I will run into any negative consequences from choosing to do one first rather than the other. Could anybody suggest what would be best or if I should look into any other options? Thank you.

You will be attending school for a long time if you want to get both degrees. I'd say, pick one and get a degree. Also, why not just get a BS in Zoology and then go on to vet school? You will still have a bachelor's in zoology. That way, you save more time and less schooling as well...

I honestly love going to school and would rather do that than work, paying for it is the only downside. I will be majoring in Zoology at NC State when I transfer there (I am graduating from a two year school in the fall). I think I will go to vet school first because I can do an MS program in a vet specialization after getting a DVM, and it could possibly lead to a PhD.

Texas A&M has one of the best vet schools ever. And I'm pretty sure you can pursue both majors at once there. You should look into it.

I checked out the curriculum of all the vet schools, looking mainly at rotations. I'm looking for a school with a range of zoo and wildlife rotations, Texas A&M only offers one. NC State, UGA, OK State, and Tufts have rotations covering several aspects that are of interest to me. I'm going to put the most effort into getting into NC State. I also liked UF Davis because of their graduate program in Avian Sciences that covers more areas than the popular poultry only curriculum of some schools.
