The regular application deadline for Choate, and most other top BS, was in mid-January. If you applied in May as a late-applicant, then your chances of being admitted for Fall 2012 are pretty much zero, unless you are an Olympic-class athlete, your last name is Kennedy, or your parents are willing to fund the building of a new library.

Yes. It is hard to believe, but when my kids were there they had classmates who were all of the above. However, I think that all of the schools do quietly make room for a few students who apply over the summer.

I have to agree with you Baystater. My daughter's friend landed on 10/10 CHASED/HADES and select other boarding school WL's this year. However, she quietly applied to a Forbes List day school in NY well after the deadline and got in. In particular if you are out of area and there are special circumstances re why you didn't apply when everyone else did, you may get in. Don't know why said school referred to above didn't take a Manhattan candidate from their own WL, and chose to take an out of area candidate whose family was willing to move to Manhattan instead, but hey, anything can happen and sometimes does.

We were wait listed at Andover, Exeter and SPS. However, just received word that we just got a slot at SPS. All three schools had been over enrolled- so miracles can happen!

@calnat: Did you need financial aid? (If you don't mind answering) I just want to know the likeliness of getting of the Wait List with Financial Aid.

Blehjoints, many times there aren't specific things that applicants "did" in order to get off the waitlist. Most times it just depends on the given school's needs at that particular time.

Is it possible, at schools such as Andover or Exetor, that a student would not be accepted one year but then guarnteed a spot for the following year?
