How does everyone score so high on the SAT. I am going to take mine in December and I do not expect to make that good of a score. (I have taken the SAT in 7th grade)

I only scored a 1960; 690CR 670M 600W
I took the SAT in seventh grade too.

Chances for NCSSM?

That's my stats, you think I will get in? I'm an all A student at a hard school ranked only three under NCSSM for SAT scores. I'm also in CD10.

#1: Schools only look at your percentiles for the SAT. NCSSM however compares you to your own school because each school is different. Someone from a bad school will most likely get a low SAT score. Use your mean as your school's average and do a normal calculation on that to see where you stand.

Hi there :)

Hi, CD4 prospect here, from a crazy competitive school, too. I'm just going to jump in this thread.

To first respond to November SAT: my first try (took ACT for Duke in 7th grade) and I got 2220. I'm taking it again December to bump up the math hopefully from 750 to 800.

Can anyone comment on my chances?

Freshman classes:
- Pre-calculus (Honors)
- Chemistry (Honors)
- World History (Honors)
- Biology (Honors)
- French II
- English I (Honors)
- Healthful Living
- Physics (Honors)

GPA Weighted: 4.625 Unweighted: 3.875

Over the summer, I took Journalism online. Standard class, easy A, bad decision, but I love writing and I couldn't resist.

This semester and next:
- French III (Honors)
- French IV (Honors)
- AP Calculus AB/BC
- AP Environmental Science
- AP World History (online)
- AP Statistics
- Civics and Economics (Honors)
- English II (Honors)

I'm a member of the math team, Beta Club, Science Olympiad, Writer's Guild, STEM Club, and possibly Science Bowl (find out in a couple of days). I'm part of three service organizations outside of school - one library based, one science based, and one just a community thing. In addition to those, I'm on a science based leadership committee. I have over 70 hours of community service this year alone, and I do a lot of it at the Natural Sciences Museum in Raleigh. I'm also an athlete, varsity on the school team and multi-time state champion (in another state, actually) in the private club version.

Like most of the people here, I got both State and Grand Recognition for Duke TIP back in seventh grade. I tutor kids at school and I'm involved in hands-on teaching at the places I volunteer. PSAT and PLAN scores come soon. I also take Chinese classes and am in the equivalent of Chinese IV, but I have not yet transferred my scores.

Not Enloe, but I didn't think what school I go to matters outside of SAT scores.

greenbean97... I would think you would be a competitive candidate. You have good scores, very good grades, service and sports. The problem may be your district...as you noted, District 4 is very, very competitive.
I do think that your sports may help more than you realize. Most kids who apply are academic super starts or close to it. Most have a ton of community service and years of academic clubs. Everyone seems to be in Duke TIP. What else then, do you bring to the table? For some it is being a musician, for others it might be interesting family experiences, for others martial arts...and for some it is being a good team/school athlete. One thing we have picked up on is that NCSSM seems to really value well rounded students.

Good luck!

taben, thanks, I'll think on that.

December SAT was harder than November, for sure. I went int hoping for an 800 in math but I think I did worse than last time.

I did not take the November SAT. I just did a one or nothing type of thing. I was also hoping for an 800 in math but I am not sure if I got it...

I am from CD 4 and by a careless mistake I ended up with a 780 instead of an 800 in math. How much of an effect will this have considering that I am applying from a region where tons of people get 800s in math.
