Hello everyone. To those who made it, congratulations on your acceptance to Andover! It is certainly a wonderful achievement. To those who did not, remember that the decision most definitely does not reflect on your ability, potential for success, or worth as a human being, but rather is a testament of the competitive applicant pool and the fact that there are far too few spots for many, many qualified kids. To those waitlisted, hang in there! I know quite a few people who made it off the waitlist. The Admissions Office certainly thinks highly of you and will extend an offer of admission if conditions permit.

I'm a member of the Phillips Academy senior class (go '07!), and I would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have about Andover.

My cousin is in the class of 2007. :D

I'm going to Andover, but I'm curious about the waitlist. Were there that many waitlisted students who got off the list? Please elaborate on the conditions in which it happens.

I got rejected for grade 10 this year and I was thinking if I want to have a chance in grade 11, I'll need to have a skill Andover students has little of. So my question is what kind of hooks is Andover lacking on (i.e. tuba players, basketball players, volunteers, etc.)?

Dress code: No shirts and ties or anything. I think the admin draws the line at nudity. Some kids wear a suit to every class, others wear sweatpants. Whatever floats your boat....

Dorms: They range from the palaces in the far reaches of Abbot campus to the projects of Bishop--it's really a mixed bag. Generally, Andover dorms are head and shoulders above those at every college I've seen and besides; it's very easy to bend the housing process to one's will (i.e. after one year, you can probably get into any dorm you want if you work at it).

By the way, if anyone is entering either 9th or 10th grade do whatever you can to get into History 340 with Dr. Quattlebaum. New Lowers that means taking the HQT when you arrive and frosh: work your little bunskis off in History 100. It's all worth it; believe me.

why do some people wear a suit everyday? i find that somewhat bizarre.

Note about Hist-340: Only take it if you really into history. Quattle is intense.

I say take it regardless; builds character. But yes, Quattle is VERY intense.

History Qualifying Test...sorry it's an Andover thing, nothing to do with you being international. I should have clarified.

mathwiz do you know anybody who's gotten off the waitlist? because i did really well on my interview and my andover application was my best one and my gpa is 4.0... i guess what brought me down was my ssat (mid 80s). but i got waitlisted. is there any chance that i'll get off of it?
  • mathwizmathwiz Posts: 2,355Registered User Senior Member
I know several people who got off the waitlist. There's a chance you'll be admitted, but no guarantees. Accept a spot at your most attractive choice and hope for the best.
