The Interview; Academic Competition Interview vs. Borading School Interview

So, I'm on my school's Academic Decathalon team.

Part of aca deca is the interview. This is what we've been studying a lot lately, since it's such a major part of the compition. While we practice we've been told not to let in too many cracks, be yourself without opening up to contreversy. Don't talk too long, but be yourself. Do the same things apply for a BS interview? I'm assuming they will, but I had to ask.
