@2prepMom-

I think you're thinking of Thomas Jefferson in NJ. This one is a boarding/day school in MO.

TJ is in Fairfax County, VA

FYI: When they are referring to 'TJ' in this thread, they are referring to the Thomas Jefferson School of Science and Technology in Fairfax County, VA. TJ is a public magnet school often rated the number one high school in America, with the highest SAT scores of any school of it's size in the United States, public or private, including the top private boarding schools. Their website is here: TJHSST - Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology . In order to attend TJ, you have to actually live in Northern Virgina, take the TJ entrance exam, write essays and student profiles, get letters of recommendations, and all of the usual things that elite private schools require. TJ admission is strictly based on merit. They admit over 400 students annually out over over 3,300 applications. There is no consideration other than academic merit. There are no 'hooks', 'legacies' or 'racial/ethnic preferences'. They don't care how well their football team does.

Northfield Mt Hermon reduced the size of their student body, thus the acceptance rate had to decrease if number of applications was stable.

I live in Dallas, not too far from Hockaday. They don't have many boarders. The last time I talked to a student she said there was about 120 boarders. It's a really nice school, but I didn't want to a all girl school plus it's too close to home.
