Andover Parents Weekend

I won't know you if I see you and my nametag won't say Lemonade1, but maybe I'll see some of you this weekend. Lots of sports vs. NMH, lots of running around in the rain! I'm excited.

I wonder if some of the games will be canceled?? The rain is supposed to be torrential...I heard 3-4 inches. Boo...we had a tailgate planned.

We will be there as well! They say lots of rain, but things can change.

Lemonade1: I recall your daughter is a lower, as is ours, so they may be in the same cluster or classes!

Just read that NMH athletes aren't coming to Andover due to H1N1 outbreak at NMH. Get well soon!

I don't think they canceled directly because of that. They instituted a "day of rest" on Thursday and a delayed start on Friday because they wanted kids to rest up and stay healthy. A big part of it was the weather forecast according to my son's coach (entire team is healthy).

I'm glad the team is well. The message on the Andover website is, "Northfield Mount Herman School has just informed us that they will not be able to send teams to compete at Andover on Saturday, October 24 (Parents’ Weekend) due to a serious outbreak of H1N1 flu...Our thoughts are with our friends at NMH and we are hoping for a rapid recovery for all who are ill." I think the weather would have been rough on all the athletes, so not a bad call to stay home!

^^I think it was a combo of illness and the weather. There were 70 influenza cases this week at NMH. Last Wednesday, though, the coaches were saying if the rain was going to be as bad as the early forecasts showed, the game (soccer, anyway) would be canceled. They did cancel classes Thursday and imposed a "day of rest"....no taxis to town allowed and the student center closed. There was a delayed start to classes on Friday (10AM) and classes were shortened. Next week may have more amendments made to the schedule to allow the healthy students to rest and, hopefully, stay healthy.

Brooklyn and lemonade, how did ou like the parents weekend? Did you make it to the "Grasshopper Night"? We had a last minute standing position at the back, but WOW - the student performers were very talented and I was so impressed!

We had a great visit, and LOVED Grasshopper Night. The MCs were so talented and so funny, and just so much talent throughout (made me wish I could juggle). Plus, this year (our second) we knew some of the students, and though my daughter wasn't performing, one of the amazing musicians in the last act was wearing her dress!

Grasshopper was great! We were at the late Saturday show....so much talent. We also heard Azur, the girls singing group do a performance at Commons, and they were also great.

Also went to a nice reception for class of 2012/2013 parents with Dean Fried.

Parents' weekend was fun, but tiring! It is easy to understand why our kids are tired.

Just a few more weeks and then they are home for Thanksgiving.

Talking about "tiring", just walking from building to building for 20 minute presentations from the teachers for all his 6 classes was some work. Imagine our kids do this every day and participate in class discussions, take tests, etc. Plus sports, clubs and tons of homework... Well I am sure they have fun moments but it does sound and feel tiring. No wonder the comment we heard most from the teachers was "they are full of energy". It's surely not a "lifestyle" for someone at my age!

We (students) were told as well that NMH did not come due to H1N1.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed Ghop 09! I was light designer/light board operator. A ton of work went into that show on everybody's part - hours and hours a day.

Congratulations, Ksong12, I thought that the crew work was excellent, all smooth transitions, great lighting. Unbelievable for students to pull all that together in so short a time.

I don't know about the whole H1N1 thing....we were told just this Wednesday, by our son's coach, that they decided not to travel for soccer because of the heavy rain (game played in similar conditions at Andover a couple of years ago and field was atrocious even though it was turf) and that this particular team's decision was not influenced by the flu. So...I don't really know.

H1N1 outbreak was the official reason NMH gave Andover for the cancellation, so it was announced so to students and parents.
