On average, how much space do the dorms have for storing stuff? and where do you put your luggage? are bed risers allowed?

Storage: usually under bed/in closet or somewhere else in your room. I presume you are a girl and in general, you guys get HUGE rooms (as freshman) and if you're an upperclassman, you generally get better rooms than guys.
Bed risers: not needed. You can adjust the bed frame's height for under bed storage (go about 4 ft high)

I was wondering the same thing as jeweled horse. I called Andover the other day to ask about whether or not we should/can bring any furniture. I was told that we can bring a small nightstand or a small shelving unit, and some lamps.
I sent in my housing card a while ago, and I remember that I didn't write down a specific dorm/cluster that i would prefer. Is that okay? I did say that I would prefer a single room. When will we find out what dorm/cluster we are going to be in?
Thanks!

You usually find out in august. If you want a single, you probs will be in isham (west quad north, small dorm), or Nathan Hale (pine knoll, large dorm).

And if you need any furniture, you can drive down to wallmart (down main steet) to get any comfy chairs, lamps, etc you may need

I'm partial to the Knoll, which only has large dorms. I lived in Stimson this past year, but I'll be a prefect in Nathan Hale in the fall. The rooms in Hale vary from tiny one room doubles to roomy three-room doubles. It's true that Flagstaff has is closest to campus, but the only dorms that are actually far from main campus are dorms in Abbott. Abbott dorms tend to be old houses that were later converted to dorms. They're beautiful, but almost always a hike from campus. Stimson and Stevens are the two upperclassmen girls dorms in the Knoll, and they have only singles and three-room doubles. Not the prettiest dorms on campus, but they are definitely on the top of the list in terms of space. Adams and Johnson are two of the nicest dorms on campus (Adams has an elevator) and the house counselors are amazing, but new students often get stuck in two-room doubles or three-room triples, and it's sort of far from certain buildings on campus.

Although I am not going to Andover I have a general dorm based question. Do you (from personal experience or not) believe that being in a larger dorm is better than being in a smaller dorm? I have heard pros and cons for both. A dorm with more people may help you meet more people but a dorm with less people may help foster closer relationships between peers better. Do larger dorms generally have bigger rooms or do you find smaller dorms having the larger rooms?

I've found that a larger dorm has been beneficial to my social experience at bs. Though one would think that smaller dorms would get better conmections with other students, larger dorms offer a variety of kids and makes breaking the ice easy. You also get to know people in your halls very well while at bs. And from my experience, most kids come over to the larger dorms on the weekends, and kids from the smaller dorms said that they wished they had gotten into the larger ones. On the other hand, if you are a returning student, smaller are good options so you can just stafk a small dorm with a bunch of close buds

It depends on what you're looking for. In terms of aesthetics, Adams wins without question. It's absolutely beautiful, and the rooms are quite large. Day Hall and Johnson are also quite nice. In terms of clusters, each has its own feel. If you want true sense of community and tons a spirit as well as spacious (although not very pretty...) rooms, the Knoll is for you! It definitely has a reputation as the most spirited cluster, and it only has large dorms. If you rarely make it to class on time and always forget books in your dorm, Flagstaff is your safest bet. Dorms like Day Hall and Paul Revere are right in the mix of main campus, so you definitely have time to run to your dorm between classes. If you want to be close to downtown and don't mind walking to class, Abbott is nice. Most dorms are smaller and are older houses that have been converted to dorms, so they have lots of charm. However, you usually sacrifice some space. Clement is one of the closer Abbott girl dorms (I think), and the house counselor makes the best Mac n cheese ever. The Quads always sort of reminded me of the suburbs a bit. The dorms are pretty nice, not too close but not too far from campus. West Quad North dorms aren't quite as nice, but it's home to the "garden of Eaton," a house counselor's BEAUTIFUL garden. West Quad South has nicer dorms (like Adams), but everyone sort of lumps WQS and WQN together. Hope that helps!
Note: If you're an incoming freshmen, your options are limited. You only have Hearsey House, Nathan Hale, Double Brick, and Isham. Isham is the farthest from campus, but very nice. It's also attached to the health center, which is convenient. Double Brick is next door to the music building, and it's quite nice as well. I've never been in Hearsey, I just know that only 4 girls lived there, which ended up working out nicely. Their house counselor could fit all 4 girls in her car, so she took them to the beach! Nathan Hale is sort of notorious. It's the largest, and it's in pine knoll. (I'll be one of the prefects in Nathan Hale this year, so I'll admit that I am biased.) 40ish freshmen girls, rooms ranging from one room doubles to spacious three room doubles. Lots of insanity, but lots of fun! Hope that helps.
