I am reading Milton Friedman's, Road to Serfdom. It's a political/economics book, this is the genre I enjoy the most. A good political read is Machiavelli's Prince.
As for fiction, some of the books I've read in the past year or so are:
Out of the Shadows by Jason Wallace - probably not the best to read before heading off to boarding school.
Go Ask Alice - diary of a girl in the 1970s, focused on her drug usage.
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee - about a lawyer defending a black man before there were equal rights.
Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger - about a rebellious teen who leaves boarding school.
Song of Fire and Ice by George RR Martin - this is the book that the first season of Game of Thrones portrayed.
Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally - about a girl quarterback.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - I love this. It's an old book set in England which is such an interesting cultural time to me. It's about dating and cultural stratification, with great characters and plot.
