Asking Teachers for Rec's

This message is geared mostly towards students already in high school that are applying out, and parents:

Have you already asked your teachers for reccomendations? If so, what did you say, and did they seem angry that you were hoping to leave your current school?

I have a problem because my teacher went to Exeter and didn't like it very much. (Crazy, i know!) Anyway, I don't know how willing she would be to fill out a recommendation for a student applying there. Also-- my (high) school has been having problems with too many kids changing schools, and I'm not looking forward to asking my principle for a rec.

I hope this doesn't sound too confusing!

I guess this is what I am trying to ask: Were your teachers generally unhappy about the fact that they have/had to fill out a recommendation for you because you are hoping to leave the school?

NOPE! Well, not my English teacher. My Math and EC (band director) both seemed disappointed that I'd be leaving them, but were both VERY helpful. They're filling them out right now, actually. I handed them out a few weeks ago. My Math teacher is also the varsity volleyball coach, and she seemed quite upset that I might not be on her varsity team in two years. Oh well, she said, and she basically will fill them out truthfully, editing out the whole disappointment factor.
Basically, I trust my teachers to give their best effort in getting me to these schools.

Last year, my teachers didn't really mind.

This year, I just transferred schools so I don't know... I'm going to wait awhile before giving it to them until my grade is brought up.

My teachers didn't mind. Well, one of them was totally fine and seemed happy to do it, I gave it to him on a Friday and on Monday he told me he had sent it out. The other one was fine with doing it, too. He took forever to get the recommendation sent out...he kept saying he had done it but the school kept saying they hadn't gotten it. I think he ended up faxing it the day of the deadline. I gave them out in mid October. Not so early that they didn't really know me, but I wanted them to have plenty of time to do it and send it out.

They didn't seem angry at all that I wanted to switch out of the school.

What do they mean by that? How would you fill out your own recommendations? Do they mean they want you to fill it out and they would sign it?? That doesn't make any sense at all.

^ tell them that you only fill out the part where it says specifically "TO THE STUDENT." the "TO THE TEACHER" part is exclusively for them, so they should feel special

Not at all. My teachers were dissapointed that I would be leaving the school system, yet they said that they would be happy to complete an application. My teachers are truly amazing, kind, and encouraging. Unless you have been a disrespectfull students that delibrately attempts to cause trouble, your teachers will be happy to complete an application.

your teachers have to fill them out truthfully whether they want to or not. This should be the least of your worries.
