Episcopal Chances?

I Made almost all strait A's first trimester this year and all A's all of last year, I scored 74% percentile on the Ssat, I had a good interview, strong teacher recs, and EHS always takes at least one kid from my school every year and this year only one other kid applied, so what are my chances?

Is the other kid from your school more or less qualified than you are? If you're equally qualified, do you (or the other kid) have a "hook?"

EHS takes about 40% of applicants, so right there your chances are higher than a lot of places. Add to that your qualifications and I'd say from where I sit, it looks good. That is a beautiful school. Good luck!!

BSbound, the other student is a boy and I'm a girl and they have a record number of girl applicants this year.... But I'm more qualified than the boy and sure we both know plenty of people at EHS but neither one of us have gone over board on recs.

Episcopal High School: Admissions » From The Director

The Director of Admissions says that almost 600 students were competing for 125 slots. That's around 20% -- not very comforting. My daughter also applied to EHS; there were a number of students from her middle school who applied as well.

Hopefully you'll be the one from your school who gets in, xcprep!!

Whoops, I made a mistake in my previous post. According to the letter, EHS had 125 slots to fill. They received about 600 applications. Of course they'll admit more than 125 students, because some of them will decline the offer. Sorry to scare you (and myself) into thinking that only one of five applicants would be offered a spot!

^^right, so if their yield is (who knows? 50-75%?), they'll be offering admission to somewhere between 175-250 kids...so roughly 1 in 3. I know, I know, my "roughly"s are indications I'm a humanities guy!

Waitlisted. The other kid got in though, but his family has LOTS of connections at EHS and I'm a girl and it was a really hard year for girl applicants, 400 applicants for 30 ish spots.

Oh, my goodness! I hadn't heard that statistic. My daughter did get in and will probably go. The other students from her school did not get in. I don't know whether any of them were waitlisted or not -- no one was really saying. I hope you'll get off the WL, xcprep, and maybe she'll see you in September!

Episcopal is finally going 50/50 coed next year, so I'm surprised to hear that it was a tough year for girls. They needed to admit a bunch more girls this year because their old male/female ratio was 55/45.

Anyway, it's a great school, and has been mentioned, the campus is particularly beautiful. Good Luck to you, xcprep. I hope the waitlist works in your favor!

i was looking at 9th. No one got off the waiting list, but i ended up at an all girls school in ct, that i ended up liking much more anyway. The problem is i'm a local girl, and unfortunately many of the local girls don't have the greatest reputation around town and in general. But the boy from my school who got in, lives next to a man who works in the admissions office and his uncle is on the board, so he is VERY well connected. There was only one local girl admited and she very connected also. Unfortunately when it comes to DC schools the admissions process is often mainly based on connections, politics, and wealth.
