| What are my chances of getting into Berkshire, Deerfield, and NMH?!
Hey guys, I have a few questions about my chances of getting into these schools..
First off, I am a well rounded person. I am a great athlete. I am one of the top ski racers in the northeast. I also am a good soccer player, that will probably play on varsity for 3 years, and JV, 1 year(freshman year).
I think my interview will go great, I have great people skills, and I'm very good with adults.
As for my grades, I am an honors student, my GPA(unweighted)is 3.3 to 3.6. My SSATs, I think, will go well. I soon will start being prepped by a private tutor, and doing a ton of studying, I hope to get in the 85 percentile, and up.
For community service/extra curricular activities, I am a 3 season athlete. I take woodshop and graphic design, with A's in both classes. I am the head editor of my school's newspaper, I volunteer at a homeless shelter where they serve food. I also volunteer at my town's book sales each summer. If jobs matter, I am a caddy at my local golf club for all three months of summer.
I will be applying to schools next year, I will be applying to be a freshman. So I will be going to the school for 4 years. For Berkshire, I am 25 minutes away from the school, so I will be a day student if I go. As for Deerfield and NMH, they are both about an hour away, so I would board.
So..CC, what are my chances?!!
Thanks!
also, I know people will ask about my conduct. as for that, I am very good. rarely get in trouble, and if that happens it's minor. so conduct/character is NOT an issue.

I am also a male, Caucasian, from western Mass.
I'm coming from a prestigious private school BTW. I also take French and Latin. In French I have an A-/B+ and in Latin I have a B+

skiing is not a big deal sport in prep schools and everyone plays soccer. that said, you will certainly stand an excellent chance at berkshire and nmh. there isn't enough info in your vita to know what your chances are at deerfield. the ssat, interview and recs need to be excellent to get in there. what pre prep do you attend now?

^^Skiing is indeed a very big deal at some preps, with many national level skiers, and many do have downhill ski teams. As for soccer, not "everyone" plays and the coaches are always looking for recruitable talent. It can be a big hook if the think you can make the varsity cut.

Thanks for the responses guys..
and yes to the person to posts above me, skiing is a most definitely a big deal. especially at deerfield and NMH, skiing is one of their top priorities, both schools have produced multiple national team members, and olympians in some cases. as for soccer, not everyone plays...and soccer is a pretty big priority at many preps.
At NMH the coaches are recruiting me for skiing, so I've concluded that I'm basically going to get in, as long as i keep up my grades..which I will. I also think I have a good shot at Berkshire, because they are actually looking for more day students, what do you guys think? and for Deerfield, I'm still not sure if I get in, but it's not the end of the world if I don't because assuming I get into the other two, i have options. Right now, I am kind of leaning in the direction of being a day student at Berkshire, because I love the prep school experience, but still being able to come home every night. Although, then again, if I go to board at NMH or Deerfield I get the full experience, and I get to come home every night. ughh, it's a tough decision.
But thanks a lot for the responses, both of you, please keep them coming, about the chances I have of getting into these schools.
And just to list the sports I do competitively(on a team):
Baseball for 4 years(all of Little League, but I'm not going to play this coming year)
Fall Soccer for 6 years on travel teams, and 4 years on my school team
This coming Spring will be my second year playing club soccer, which is a notch above, and very competitive to get on the team.
5 years of competitive ski racing, both in a USSA league, and my school league. My results include, top ski racer in Massachusetts for 2 years. top 15 racer on the east coast, top skier in my school's league(as a 6th grader).
I also played basketball on a travel team from 2nd-5th grade.
so keep the responses coming please, about my chances of getting into these three schools.
thanks again

check out holderness, good academics and really strong ski program. nmh and deerfield don't even win the nepsac A division. the skiing will get you further when applying to schools near big mountains where you can ski 6 months.

I don't think you can go home for the weekends at Deerfield and NMH? I didn't think they were five day.. anywayyyyy:
You play a lot of sports, good for you! You remind me of my brother a lot, lol. Anyhow, is it possible for you to be recruited for any of the sports you play? Talk the coaches and really show them your interest in possibly playing on their team next year. I like that you don't just play sports, and that you're also a good writer too, or at least you editor position implies. Having diverse interests can always be good. Your grades, although I hate to admit, are on the lower side for Deerfield I believe (A-/B+) while most applicants will probably have more of the A/A- range. No fear though, they won't cost you, especially if the school you're from is recognized as a top notch school there. (Plus grades don't really have much of a weight, you won't get rejected for having one B+ in Latin) Anyway, make yourself stand out in your interview, which I'm sure you can do, as you said you're a good people person. Make your essays original, and study, study, study for those SSATs. You have a chance. Good luck!
Sorry if anything I said above is false, I'm not an admissions officer, only a person. ;P (Admissions officers are actually aliens)

Thanks ^, that really helped.
I don't think I can get recruited for soccer, but I definitely can for Skiing. That's kind of what i thought, with the grade situation, I think I might be able to do a little better on that front, and my goal is to make high honors one trimester this year. I try to keep up my ECs, because I know those are important, and they are fun, same with sports.
thanks! and keep them coming guys.

Northfield Mount Hermon, a boarding school in Massachusetts.
Although NMH is not a "5 day" school, you can certainly go home most w/e's. My son does.

you seem to have a good chance! i applied to berkshire last year (day student as well) and got in, but im at porter's now because berkshire really didn't have a good music program which i wanted....
im a racer as well (windham mt) and you said that you're in the top 15 in the east coast? that means (i did ussa as well till last year as a first year j3) and so that means you went to j0s? cool! and i went to a private day school that races (ims), where do you ski out of??
