SSAT Scores

Can someone give me a breakdown on SSAT scores? I am not clear about what is a strong score and what is an average score. D. is taking the 9-12th grade version of the test.

It really just depends on where she is applying. A reasonable thing to do is look at the average SSAT percentile of the schools she is interested in and see if she falls close to that range.

for a 3rd or even some 2nd tier schools, 70-80 percentile is acceptable

It depends...
For instance, if you're applying to HADES (Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, SPS) then a strong SSAT (one that will slightly help you) is like 2300+. A mid SSAT would be like 2200-2300, and a low SSAT would be under 2200. But remember, percentiles matter as well, you want to aim for high 90s for HADES tier.

Also, for "second" tier schools such as uh.., Taft, Kent and the such??
A strong SSAT would be like 2200+, mid would be 2100-2200, and -2100 would be low.

This might be erroneous, so take it with a grain of salt.
