Senior portraits- Exeter?

Hi Exeter parents, can anyone tell me the process for yearbook photos? Are we supposed to have them taken with a photographer? When is the deadline? I called dean of students office and was referred to the PEAN office. I left a message on that line a few days ago and have not heard back yet. Any info appreciated!!

What do you mean by yearbook photos? All seniors get their own half page to do with what they wish, many kids team up to get a full page (2 kids), or 2 full pages (4+) - and so on. Many times a big group from a particular dorm will do a page. Students will have gotten multiple emails regarding these deadlines. Parents or other family members may put together a page or part of a page and pay for it. I think a full page is somewhere around $400 - again, I believe my email was clogged for months with this info long after I paid during the early bird discount time. Just look at his old yearbooks and you will see what I mean - some senior pages are fancy, some are not. Most families do something personal from childhood - and some have professional staged photos (not the norm, however). Some do just a quarter page, and some do a full if they have a lot of pics.
It does take a while for them to return emails/phone calls (it is a club - albeit a really large organized one) and these kids are busy. I do remember that you just uploaded photos to a central website (and pay) and they (the PEAN staff) will format it for you. They will send a proof for you to approve later on. You may also format your own page - the guidelines were also on the website that we linked to for page payment.

One year my Exonian friends were there (mid 80s), a group teamed up to have nothing but "Time to make the donuts"...one word per page (I think white knocked out of a black background).

Pretty sure it was an inside joke about some illicit behavior.

liddyb4: Thank you- that process is quite different from our local public school. It's interesting because I haven't received one email about it and there is nothing on the parent portal about it at all. Just found his yearbook from prep year and now i see what you mean! I wonder if Im just too early for even the early bird parent emails. Awaiting son's return call !

Sevendad: that is a funny but a very expensive joke!

To clarify - the kids get a FREE half page - they can do anything they want with it. One word, or pictures, or a poem - anything. My son joined with many others and they had multiple full pages of photos, quotes, and signatures. Stuff that speaks to their time at school. That seems to be the common approach.

Cautionary tale: Lots of years there is at least one or two couples that do their senior page together now and then break up prior to graduation/prom/yearbook distribution. SUPER uncomfortable in June.

The other "extra" pages - those you pay for by the quarter page. They are by no means mandatory! Many do a full page just to get in words of congratulations and photos that are meaningful to the family. Some families that are close to another family share a whole page to congratulate all their kids + friends at once - and divide the cost. So, those pages are more for you to have fun with - the proofs are not shared by PEAN staff with the student/s in question unless you share them. Many families keep them as a surprise.

I will try and find out what the timeline is and get back to you. It seemed like it was pretty early on -but maybe it was closer to October. The price for the family pages is far lower if you do it by 1 December ( that's the deadline I seem to remember) and that's the deadline that also includes the free proof.

I heard back from son...after searching his email he found this:

(edited) "We hope your summer was relaxing, and we look forward to working with you on the yearbook this fall. Now that we all are back, we would like you to start thinking about your senior page in the PEAN. For all you new members of the Class of 2013, the PEAN, the Phillips Exeter yearbook, offers every senior half a page to customize in the yearbook and use to leave his or her mark. Each senior works with a PEAN associate to design his/her page. Students often like to work in groups by combining their pages with friends."

So no deadline yet but good to know he should start planning with his friends. Thanks again!
