OK, I'm pasting this question here from the Harvard forum in the hope that someone will answer and alleviate my suffering

It's really a very late question, since my app has been sent for months and months now.... But I never really got that. In the app it asked about a possible concentration you're considering. I don't remember what I wrote, but it has probably changed. Does it matter for your chances of admission WHICH CONCENTRATION you said you were interested in? Like, if I said Neuroscience, would it be better for me since I have a very strong record in Science?
I thought it was not binding at all... and from what I read here it seems it is a binding and important choice for your admission... Help, anyone???

no it's definitely not binding.. you choose your major at the end of your sophomore year i think. it might affect your chance of admission a little if you put down an unusual major or one they need more interest in, as long as the major makes sense by looking at your ECs, grades, etc. (like your example about having a good record in science and then listing neuroscience)... but in general i highly doubt it would come close to making or breaking your app.

I got that months ago. It wasn't much, but there was a brochure that talked about freshman seminars that came in January (if I recall correctly).

Sure, but those were seminars for last year; they change quite a lot year by year. I would imagine that we get lots more information once high school ends, early June or so. That's when we will have to fill out stuff for roommate assignments, dorms, and then presumably the beginning of our course selections.
