Graduation speeches

Hey everyone! We have a similar thread on the Early Decision '11 Facebook group, and I thought I'd bring it to CC, too.

What is everyone speaking about at graduation (I would assume there are many of us who are valedictorians, salutatorians, etc.)? I just found out today that I am valedictorian (yay!) and after being really excited for about 2 seconds, I realized that I have to write a speech and have absolutely no idea what to say.

So, maybe we could toss around a few ideas? And congrats to the Class of 2007! Can you believe we're graduating already?

Yeah I've been wondering about this too. I want to write something that is original, but this is fairly difficult since graduation is something that happens every year.

Yeah, I agree...it's so hard not to be cliche! I'm student body VP...not a val or sal like you smarties. Anyway, I am on board with this thread but unfortunately cannot contribute any ideas...except for saying that none of us should use "Oh, the Places You'll Go!," any other Dr. Seuss book, lyrics to popular songs, quotes by Winston Churchill ('this is the beginning of the end' or whatever), quotes by JFK ('you are the future') etc.

Haha, I'm useless.

Don't do the whole "road not taken" or any Robert Frost thing either. Way overdone. Especially the swinger of birches one (can't remember the name).

Just talk about how you feel and surely your experience is different from everyone else's before you.
