When do we get more housing info? As in which college, who our roomates are, etc. I'm hoping for Whitman, Matthey, or Rocky. So long as it isn't Butler I'll be fine.

| Someone on the Facebook group said that they were told by the housing dept. that all rooming info (roommates, room #, etc.) would be mailed to us on July 13th.

Butler definitely has freshmen. Otherwise, I'd be out of a job (I'm an RCA). It also has suh-weet housing this year. There's none of the waffle-ceilinged, brick-walled, and tiny-roomed mess it used to be: there's everything from the second-newest dorm on campus complete with temperature control and wood floors to a gothic building with the best location on campus to a third building with massive singles. So if anyone thinks they're getting the short end of the stick if they end up in Butler, they'll definitely wise up once they step foot on campus

Well that's good to know. So what's the low college on the totem pole now? Wilson? Forbes?

Yup, Forbes and Wilson are pretty much at the bottom. As mentioned above, Butler has now taken over Bloomberg (new, air-conditioned, mostly singles), Cuyler Hall (absolutely gorgeous, quaint, Gothic dorm with a lovely quad, right in the center of campus), and 1915. The only downside will be construction outside your window at 7 am in the morning... Wilson is probably the least desirable at this point, with ugly architecture and rooms that haven't been renovated in awhile; although, it is one of the best locations on campus. And Forbes of course is far away from everything, although private bathrooms for everyone, the ability to walk to meals in your pajamas (much more appreciated once you actually start college), and awesome brunches don't make it that bad. There are major renovations going on at Forbes this summer, adding a 3rd floor on the New Wing (which will be sub-free, gigantic doubles, private bathroooms), as well as bringing the common areas up to par with the rest of campus (replacing disgusting couches, getting new light fixtures, painting). Also, all the dining halls on campus are undergoing renovations to bring them up to the same quality as the Whitman dining hall.

which halls are sub-free? Is sub-free housing a popular choice amongst students? Is anyone else choosing sub-free dorms?

Each college has a specified section that is sub-free. For Rocky, it's usually somewhere in Buyers Hall. For Mathey, it's some entryways in Campbell, I believe. For Forbes, it's always part of the second floor main inn and the second floor New Wing (although that's changing b/c of the addition of the 3rd floor). Butler's was Lourie-Love once, but it's all changed around now. Wilson's changes every year too. Sub-free is pretty popular--basically, you get some of the best rooms on campus (especially in Forbes, where you're guaranteed not to get stuck in the addition). And living in sub-free by no means restricts you from actually being sub-free, you're still free to do whatever you want at parties and around campus--you just can't come back insanely drunk and cause trouble. The majority of people who live in sub-free drink, but most don't smoke or do drugs, which is the main reason I like it. And it is very nice to have a nice quiet place to go back to if you want some sleep instead of having a raging party booming through the walls next door.
