Where did you buy your clothes for Princeton?

Hey all. I just viewed an album (I guess from Frosh week, but it had students from varying years in the album) and I can't recall ever seeing more plaid shorts/shirts, oxford type shirts of all different colors/patterns, etc. in one place! :-) Everyone looked great (and very "preppy") but I really want to know: Just where do people shop for these type of clothes?

Particular stores?
On-line?
In person?

WOW! Over 100 views but not ONE reply on where students buy their clothes? That tells me either 1) No one wishes to reveal :-(((
Or

2) Others are also interested to learn where people buy their clothes for Princeton.

Mmmm... maybe I should post in the "mom's forum" -- do moms buy all or a lot of your clothes for you?

If anyone else wants the answer, perhaps you can repost my question in a better way?

Students at HYP are no different than students at UMich, UColorado or UCLA. Most buy their clothes from a retail store that can be found in any mall -- stores such as: Aeropostale, American Apparel, American Eagle, Banana Republic, Gap, Macy's, Old Navy, Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, Century 21, Target, Walmart etc. Kids wear what they want -- not because they attend a certain school. You need to visit more than Ivy League colleges to see that all students dress pretty much the same, no matter what school they attend.

You happened to see a particular subset of students, who wear "preppy" clothing. If you child gets into Princeton, Harvard, or any other highly selective college, then your child should be smart enough to figure out where to purchase said clothing. This is not your job, and I wouldn't waste a lot of money on these clothes if they do not currently fit his or her style. What happens when your child doesn't get accepted, and has a whole wardrobe of clothing that seems pretentious wherever he ends up? Let him figure it out after he knows where he's going. Dressing your kid like a successful student won't make him a successful student, and if his peers are not wearing preppy clothing, it's not likely to make him fill like one either.

For the record, you can get these types of clothing all over the place at a variety of price points. Oxford shirts can be found at JCrew, JC Penney, LL Bean, The Gap... even Walmart! Plaid shorts can be found at many of the same places. Google is your friend... type in what you want and you'll get a list of places that carry them.

For whatever it's worth, my son (current pton freshman) visited in his senior HS year and while not particularly preppy, said he was by far the preppiest kid he'd met. He actually commented on the number of hipsters he met, and kids who just simply wore what they liked (this was not a negative in any way...just didn't fit the ivy paradigm). Most kids don't wear pajamas to class (or even sweats all that much) from what he's said but there isn't an expected style.
