I have a 4.0 from 10th to 12 th grade good ECs and took the hardest courses possible. My essay is about how the Earthquake in Haiti affected me academically and how it helped me decide to go into chemical engineering with a track in bio and nano technology. Also it helped motivate me to compete for Haiti in tennis...its not bad I also dont think SAT scores hold any correlation with Essay writing to a certain point. The 1850 wont be that way for long by the way
Pretty unsubstantiated judgement that an 1850 score means essay writing ability is automatically lacking. An 1850 may simply mean that the applicant is not an exceptional standardized test taker.
I think your essay ideas sound wonderful! Do your best, take a deep breath, and try to relax as much as you can through the process. I remember that interminable wait for an answer on my son's application...it has a tendency to take over all your thoughts and focus. But I still believe you'll never know what you could have done unless you try. Good wishes!!
Well, of course not automatically, but I'd bet money a significant relationship between test scores and writing performance exist.
I apologize if I sounded crass/insensitive in that post and agree that there are probably many great writers with 1850s (which is not a bad score at all, considering the mean).
yea I'd be worried about my writing abilities if I studied the way I did the second time and got an 1850 but the retake should be higher. Thanks though guys and Philovitist you should apply to Princeton EA. I saw you're stats;you're a beast! Its good to see African Americans doing so well
I don't have any subject tests (I decided to use my second waiver on a retest of the general SAT), so I can't apply to Princeton or most other top schools at all.
Jlaine- with a highly selective school, everyone's chances are "maybe". It's reasonable to apply to a dream school, but only applying to highly selective schools- the ones that reject most of their applicants is risky. I hope you have others on your list that are good fits for you but less selective- where you chances (and everyone else's with your stats) are higher. There are many factors in admissions decisions. Scores , race might play a part, but another one is chance.
Also, if you're brother is well known, and your user name can easily identify you, your posts are no longer anonymous here- so that makes grades and scores less confidential. It may not concern you now, but on applications, job applications, this info could be accessible to the public. I don't know how to change a user name but perhaps the administrator of the board can help you.
yea it would help if i actually liked harvard haha but he graduated. and Philovitist with your SAT increase I'd be extremely suprised if Yale denies you.
