That was Sheldon, of course. Leonard would never say such a thing

mifune is a genius - a very "rare breed." I have been "cyber stalking" (haha) mifune on CC for quite awhile.... I'm not a creep or anything - really! But anyways, your insight and opinions have definitely been very helpful to a lot of people throughout the application process, mifune.

I agree. Not to create a neologism, but the Ivy League universities will not be pulling a "Stanford."

The Ivies better not pull a "Stanford." I was not prepared for that.

"Conferring" our thoughts? Elaborate please on your choice of "confer?"

^When one is being grandiloquent, word choice is usually not the first consideration: impressiveness is.

Alumother, are you attempting to play off the conversation from January’s thread or do you have a genuine concern with “confer?”

I have decided to act as though you are the genius people say, which would mean you have good reasons to use a word that to me seems not to fit. In other words, I am open to learning from you.

Oh, well I suppose that my choice of “confer” was made in the sense that it is synonymous with “discuss.”

19 hours, 37 minutes

Or, given the short time remaining, if you find seconds more preferable – 70,620

No, although I enjoy the artistic quality of manga, I have never read it. (The December SAT actually had a passage regarding manga and its economic impact and I found it quite enjoyable to read.)

OK. So the most common meanings of "confer with" other people is to discuss. And if you "confer" an object, that commonly means to bestow. However the full list of meanings is:

# (v. t.) To grant as a possession; to bestow.
# (v. t.) To bring together for comparison; to compare.
# (v. t.) To contribute; to conduce.
# (v. i.) To have discourse; to consult; to compare views; to deliberate.

I understand the confusion. Perhaps the second definition above applies.
