i just read about how your daughter may be taking a year off of school due to lack of aid. i just wanted to say that i had to do the same thing last year. my mother refused to sign my FAFSA, so i only got $5,000/year in merit scholarships to MICA and no need-based aid. my mother moved out of state soon after i made the decision not to go (i was still 17 at the time!) and it was a really hard time for me. i spent my year off working and experimenting with new mediums, basically doing everything i could to keep myself creatively productive. and yet i still felt like something was missing. i felt like a big fat failure every time someone would ask me if i was in school. it was especially hard to hear about all of my friends' new exciting college experiences. (the system cut me off here so i will continue in another message...)
