    Hello,
Since we seem to be met by stony silence from Mr. Dooley, I'm appealing to the other moderators. Can you help?:
Mr. Dooley, I respectfully request that you remove the "featured thread" at the top of the USC website because it is 2 months old. As many people have posted on various threads about this featured thread, it is the only college with a thread and thread title negative about a specifically singled out college. It makes it appear that you are strongly biased against USC for some reason and damages the credibility of this site. Please allow the thread to move down as all other threads do when no further posts are posted to it. Thank you.

    Hi Sally,

You wrote: I don't want students who are submitting, say, three AP exam results to be compared to those who also submit those three AP's plus uber-high SAT's and ACT's.

What about in the case of homeschooled students, whose parent-issued grades may not be very meaningful? Or what about the case of students coming from a school that is not well-known to the college, and whose grades have meanings that may not be very clear?

I have just finished my soph yr in a highly selective priv school. My overall gpa is 3.85 and i am a starter on both w volleyball and basketball for our school teams which won the league title in both. My standardized test scores are just average. I really want to go to a top lac but my counselors tell me that the top ones won't even look at me without better test scores. I always freeze on these type tests and yet because i work hard, do very well in my classes. I know i will have good recs from my teachers and coaches. Additionally I am a good artist, having won several school competitions.
Talking to our college counselors is very frustrating. They have convinced my parents that i should either go to a "uc" or set my sights lower.
I would very much appreciate any advice you could offer.

Hi, I was wondering if you could possibly address this topic. I posted it in another forum, but I'd love to get your input.

Just a few days ago, my school sent out my transcript/recommendations to three schools that have rolling admissions. I waited so long because I'm trying to show an upward trend, and by holding off until February, will now be able to see my entire first semester.

I am, however, wondering whether or not I'll have a tougher chance getting in as the rolling schools have fewer spots this late in the season.

Thanks for any help in advance.

The story was written by Kim Clark of US News & World Report and is posted at www.usnews.com, not newsweek. Thanks.

a few months ago, I had sent you a question about getting expelled from a college, as opposed to high school. Also, last year I posted about what I did, and what happened to me because of it. I am just wondering your advice on the topic, as you may know. I've never been convicted of any crime, but got into major trouble at my ED school as a freshmen, first semester, and in fact the incident which led to expulsion happened the first full night of school, as an immature 18 year old, and I will be 20. basically, I got drunk(like a majority of college students) and out of control, and was accused of certain things which I sent you in a private message. I am academically very astute, got a 2010 on my SATs, and got in ED to a top 32 liberal arts school. At my semester at a community college, I got a 3.69, and this semester at a private 4 year school which didn't ask about expulsion on the app, I got a 3.66, deans list both times. I really would like to attend a college on my academic level again, as I now attend a northeastern "Master's university," which is good and better than CC for sure, but nowhere near as academically challenging or stimulating as my first school. Thanks for your help.

Agreed. Campus videos are helpful for everyone, but my blog will be specifically for international students, which is why I'll use your link there.

Thanks "in advance" for including us (www.collegiatechoice.com) in your new international blog. Yes, our DVD videos could be especially helpful for international students but how about a New Jersey "techy" teen who is considering MIT, Cal. Tech., RIT, Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh, Rose Hulman, Georgia Tech., Worcester Polytech., Rensselaer Polytech, Harvey Mudd, and the engineering departments of several out-of-state universities. Talk about huge travel expense.
    All the best.

    Hi --

I tried to read your response to the question about top grad schools admitting students from less well known undergrad schools, but I get this error:
    CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.

Can you get this fixed? I'm using Firefox, but it didn't seem like a browser problem.

    Hi Sally,
Came across your thread on virtual tours for Canadian universities and just wanted to mention that we (www.collegiatechoice.com) have videotaped the student guided campus tour of 13 of them. The average playing time per school is over 50 minutes.

Do you have a particular situation you want me to discuss in my column (i.e., your OWN)? If yes, send me the details, and I will write my column about that situation in particular, but without revealing any identifying details, of course.

yes, focusing particularly on behavioral misconduct in addition to academic misconduct

Hi Mrs. Rubenstone, I'm wondering if you could make an "Ask the Dean" thread for college, not high school expulsions and suspensions. I know they are a completely different story, or think. Thank you
