@abc, My son was a finalist last year and did not have a paying job, but did mention his family responsibilities in his application (like you, we have three generations at our house).
As an outline, the QB application is due Sept. 30, finalists are announced about the third week of October, and Matches are announced Dec. 1.
If you are a finalist but not matched, you request QB forward your application to the partner colleges you select by Dec. 15. And then you will need to send your colleges additional required materials (such as the Common App and/or Common App supplements) by each college's application deadline (most were due Jan. 1 last year).
