I am debating on whether I should rank schools at all. I am undecided major (still don't know) and I have never been out of my state so I have no idea how well I'd adapt up north or wherever I apply. Even though I realize it's a great opportunity, I'm scared of being matched and committing to attend and then realize I don't like the school once I'm there.

Opinions?

Also, do you think I even have a chance of being a finalist? I was thinking it would be better to just apply to the schools via regular decision since I don't think I have a chance.

-58,000 income a year
-First generation
-A few community service projects
-Junior rep for academy government in 2011 school year
-A few awards in foreign language
-Hispanic

All schools have an average ACT of 30 and up, and I feel I wouldn't fit in at any of these colleges since everyone will have considerable higher test scores.

Should I rank or no?

I'm sorry to break this to you, but you may be already expecting it, a 1750 and 25 is pretty low. Plus 58,000 income is pretty high (compared to the rest of the applicants) despite your Hispanic background.

Since people who have top scores and (very) low income don't even get matched with QB, I'm hardly seeing a chance for you. If you don't need to save any ED or EA for other schools, then might as well go ahead. Nothing can ever go worse than not applying. I'm not sure about you, but I tend to think of myself as being able to adapt to wherever I am. (think about it, you didn't choose your elementary or high school) Why don't just do a little research and find out? Most (if not all) schools have virtual tours. Plus, go on Google maps, and search around. Things like that can go far.

Test scores weigh less heavily in the determination of finalists, so there is a slight chance of becoming one assuming that you wrote your essays very well. However, being matched doesn't seem too likely especially if you want to rank more of the selective schools. If you're looking into Yale, Stanford, or MIT caliber schools, I would skip ranking and do RD.

Also, don't worry about fitting in based on test scores. There's more to a person than how well they can frantically bubble in a scan-tron under time constraints

Why should it be better to opt out of the ranking of such schools?
Isn't it worth trying to get the scholarship? In the worst case that you are not selected as a finalist, you can still use your Questbridge app to apply for the same schools for the regular decition. But you would at least have tried.

I think your chances are pretty low. But like what Superserchlab said, it doesn't harm trying.
