I called Reed, and they said they are taking 10 kids off the wait list (but not me, yet).

Well, as of May 1, they had room for 10 students. So they will take people off their waitlist until 10 have said yes. Then, if someone leaves Reed for another waitlist they will take more.

calewithac. what did you do for that gap year to improve your chance? would you mind to share some of your "life experience" with us?

i worked the summer saving money to travel... then i traveled to europe and attempted to get a job... and failed, and instead spent my money traveling. then i returned home after 3 months, worked a lot to repay my europe debts, and am currently back in france because i found a job when i was back working in the states.

i hear that if you go to south/central america or africa it's much cheaper, so your money can last long there. i just always had my heart set on europe, which is crazy because it's so expensive currently.

i get the idea they liked the idea that i took a chance on something somewhat crazy and out of the box, and perhaps even that i failed. i think as long as you don't spend your gap year sitting on your parents couch watching south park, you have a pretty good chance of impressing them. i also get they idea that they like perseverance. so, me both trying to get a job in europe and reapplying to reed showed them that, i think... maybe. idk.

maybe i'm completely way off base. but, i don't think taking a year to do something for yourself will ever hurt you. i highly recommend them.

I also declined my admissions because I couldn't afford to go at all. So hopefully someone else can go now!

Timus Ragud, where are you from? I am also an international. Do you apply as a freshman or transfer?
