Anyone else transferring to RPI?

I can't answer your question, but I know RPI had over 15,000 applicants this year, so there will be many new students. I'm sure many of them will bribing in AP credit and will have advanced standing. Good luck!

Hi! I'm planning on transferring, too. I got unlucky this admissions cycle and I have to attend a small liberal arts college this fall (my safety net school). I want to go into computer engineering (AI in particular), but my current college has sort of a crummy science program and no engineering program (it's geared more toward artsy-fartsy people). I'm really excited about sending out a transfer application to RPI this fall, and hopefully I can get in for the spring semester!

Their website didn't say anything about barring first-year students from applying for transfer; all you need is 12 transferrable credits to be considered, so I don't think I should be worried about that. They have a great computer engineering program and AI research and accept a good number of transfer applicants. Plus, they're working to include more women, so I've got a bit of a leg up in that respect.

By AI do you mean artificial intelligence? If so, I'd recommend getting a Cognitive Science major over a CS/CSE one. Most of the people doing any AI-related work are in the Cog Sci group, and only two AI-type courses fall under the computer science major (Intro to AI, Machine Learning).

For what it's worth, I had a rather negative experience in Intro to AI. The only topic you learn in that class that you couldn't just pick up from Intro to Algorithms supplemented with a little foray into something like http://chessprogramming.wikispaces.com/ is "fuzzy logic", which is nice but not worth the 90 or so hours you'd spend formally taking the class.

Cutesnowfox good luck on your next try! I got my acceptance as out of state transfer a couple of weeks ago. I almost gave up hope because most of the other ones had denied me. But all I can say is if you want it badly enough you can get it. Do good this year and you will certainly have a great shot!
