Hi, I just signed up for this college confidential and do really know how to use it....
but I have several questions about art school.
I am a college student finishing up my BA in philosophy this semester.(thats right philosophy....).
I am studying in Massachusetts but I am an international student.
But I cannot give up my dream and I am thinking about transferring to RISD after the graduation. (I mean, it doesnt have to be RISD but I like RISD atomosphere the most.)
I am kinda good at drawing (not great) and good at making detailed 3D objects like miniature buildings (I can compete with other applicants for this). And my gpa is 3.6 with honors but my grades have nothing to do with art....(I took just one art class in college)

At this point i have no clue how hard it would be to get into a good art school like RISD or Parsons since it is very very famous for its excellence in that field. (I expect every applicant to be good and many of them to be better at drawing than i am.... and the admission will be very very competitive....) And i am a transfer student which, i assume, reduces the possibility.
So if you know anything about admission please tell me how hard it is (it would be very helpful to have the data of how many transfer students apply and how many of them the school usually accepts, etc.)

I would really appreciate if you could ansewer some of those questions.

If you are graduating in June, are you looking to attend RISD for a second undergraduate degree or for graduate school? In either case RISD is extremely competitive, as are other leading art schools. If you do not have a strong undergraduate portfolio for admission to grad school, it is recommended that you do a post-bac program in studio art before applying to grad school.

I am graduating this semester (in Dec) and tryin to get in as a sophomore for a second undergrad degree as you said. I think I can make decent portfolios (as good as other applicants') but just do not know the chances to get in since I'm a transfer student...
But thank you for your advice! I'll think about it!

My daughter graduated from RISD. She said that she thought it was easier to get in as a transfer student...for what that's worth :-)
