Curious about dining options

I was wondering if someone with first hand knowledge could comment on the dining situation at Rhodes. What information I can find leads me to believe that the dining options leave much to be desired. Thanks.

The food is a weird thing to me here. On the one hand, my personal opinion is that the food is decent. It's certainly better than when I was a student (late 90s) with more options and higher quality. I work here so I'm not on the meal plan and I choose where to eat, and yet I frequently choose to eat in the cafeteria or pub.

On the other hand, food and parking are consistently the top two student complaints when we do things like satisfaction surveys. The dining services got some bad press in the student newspaper recently.

I don't really know how to reconcile the issue. I like it but a lot of students don't, I guess. The thing is, we're right in the middle of Memphis so it's not like there aren't all kinds of options off-campus...if you go somewhere like Sewanee you had better like the food they serve because your only other option is to hunt squirrels or something.

Come visit campus and have a meal in the Rat (the cafeteria) and another in the Lair (the pub). Let us know what you think.

Thanks, lynxinsider, I was hoping I'd hear from you. We toured in August, but didn't eat on campus. We went to Cafe Eclectic, and that was good! We will be visiting again in March and will definately try the options on campus.

The entire cafeteria is about to go through a major renovation to the tune of $30+ Million. Food at Rhodes is quickly improving. I do not think it will be an issue in student's minds in the future. Food near campus is excellent, as well.

A new dorm will also be built next year.

Following that, the science labs will be renovated.

The cafeteria has gotten very good lately, and the lair food(which is cooked when you order) is delicious for the most part. I eat on campus almost everyday and am not tired of the food yet.

I didn't know there was a issue of foods at the cafeteria of Rhodes
Since its improving, I shouldn't let the issue intimidate me
