Rice Transfer - Computer Science Major

I'm a freshmen at Ole Miss in the honors college and I'm applying for transfer to Rice because they have a much better CS program than Ole Miss and a very reasonable transfer rate. Here are my stats, so it would be great if you could "chance" me and give me any sort of tip or info that might be useful. Thanks!

College:
Freshmen
4.0 GPA after 1 semester
Highly ranked honors college
Dean's honor roll
Lucky Day scholar
Reasonable amount of community service
No ECs to speak of, but I'll work on that this semester

High School:
3.8 GPA
Low ranking (that's why I didn't get into these schools in the first place) - top 15%
32 ACT
2180 SAT (700 CR, 700 M, 780 R)
Loads of ECs - band president, cross country, track, math and science team, other stuff i'm too lazy to remember
Loads of community service - church, park projects, yada yada
4 different part time jobs - sometimes overlapping

I transferred to Rice this past year and decided to major in computer science. I'm not trying to discourage you from transferring, but I just want you to know that the computer science program is very difficult and very time-consuming. Assignments will take you anywhere from 5-30 hours, though there is usually only one per 2 weeks. It takes a certain kind of person to like computer science, but if you are confident that you are that type, go for it. Otherwise, I would make sure you are transferring to Rice for other reasons as well.

I got in with stats lower than yours (especially in high school), but Rice factors in way more than just academic stats. Make sure your essay is well thought out and reflects your personality. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! I'm already a computer science major at UM, and I know what you mean about how it takes a certain kind of person, though I'm sure it is more difficult at Rice. Freshmen year of my program focuses on Java, and out projects could be time consuming as well, so I know what to expect. I just have to be ready for the increased difficulty.
