Rice's business program

I've heard great things about the architecture, music, and engineering programs, but does Rice have a strong business program?

Assuming you're asking about an undergraduate business program - no. It doesn't exist at all. The Jones Graduate School of Management is on campus, and the faculty senate is voting on the creation of a business minor for undergrads this week, but as for an actual program devoted to business, none exists. That said, you can still go to Rice, major in something non-business, and then go into the business world after graduation, which quite a few people do quite successfully from Rice.

So would it be a good choice to major in economics for undergrad and then do business for grad?

I don't know if it's the best choice but it works well for some people. I'm majoring in econ, planning on working in finance for a few years, and then possibly getting an MBA. (we'll see I actually follow through with that)
Though just to warn you, econ really isn't that similar to finance or business - it's a social science, so there tends to be a lot of general, theoretical material.

Economics majors are the most common of all majors. Only the best of the economics majors go to those high profile jobs. What exactly do you want to do with a business degree?
