financial aid: what if i am not living on campus?

i just received my stuff today. if anyone has a question to the above, i'd greatly appreciate it.
aside from rice scholarships, i have a small amount of money for my rice tuition grant...does that mean that if i am not living on campus and if i get extra outside scholarships, that eventually when it exceeds my tuition grant, my family contribution will be reduced?

smilekat: In general cost of attendance (COA) includes tuition+fees+books+room and board. Your family out-of-pocket expenses = COA - scholarships (Rice+outside) - work study - loans.

If you do not live on campus, your COA will go down, and in general they first take out loans then work study to arrive at your out-of-pocket.

However, you can't keep the money if the tuition grants + outside scholarships exceed your COA.
