| Weather Humid? Dry? Temperature in the summer? Winter?
I love everything about Rice except for its location. I'm not sure I can handle the weather. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! |

| Unless you're here during the summer, the weather is gorgeous all but about five weeks of the year — the first three, and the last two. Other than that, it's usually somewhere from the high 50s to the mid 80s, and from November to March it's consistently in the 50s and 60s.
The summer is oppressive, but everything is air-conditioned (which you can't say about most schools north of South Carolina). |

| May and September are pretty bad- hot and VERY humid. Still beats the northeast! Think flipflops in February. Lots of rain, too. |

| It's likely to be very hot and humid on move-in day. Dress accordingly. You'll have time to get cleaned up before late afternoon/evening events. |

| The weather is way preferable to the northeast in Feb You'll think you will die in Sept. and part of October but otherwise it's great. We had a delightful spring. I wouldn't want to be at Rice for summer school |

| It's pretty hot here year-round. You'll get used to it but give up on escaping the humidity! |

| But like I said, everything is air-conditioned, which you can't say of most schools north of South Carolina. Also, October through April is generally marked by gorgeous weather. |

| We're from New England and son is at Rice:
First impresson of Rice: Owl weekend in April - 70 degrees, flowers blooming. We were the last flight out of NYC that weekend due to a Nor'easter. Score one for Houston!
Second impression of Rice: move-in day. Hot and humid, but everything was air conditioned. It was manageable. School gave out iced mocha lattes in the student activities center. A nice swim in the hotel pool after dropping off my son and after parent orientation cooled me down nicely. Score two for Houston!
Third impression of Rice: Parent's weekend in October - high 70's to low 80's. Unusually low humidity (so the locals said). The weather was gorgeous, but it was strange to see pumpkin displays when the temperature was 80. Still the weather was great! Score three for Houston.
Fourth impression of Rice: February for a visit. Weather was in the low 70's and we wore very light weight sweaters. Returned to NYC airport and it was grey, foggy, and horrible. Score four for Houston!
I hear it's very hot and humid in the summer, but school's out by then. |

| Actually, August can be one of the worst months in terms of heat and humidity. But, on the bright side, we start halfway through, so we don't bake (steam?) for that long. |
