Transferring to Private School

I am currently a sophomore in high school, and have been attending a public high school for the past year and a half. However, I am seriously considering transferring to a private school at the semester, for various reasons. Do you feel that for college admissions purposes, this might be a bad choice? If so, please elaborate. Thanks.

Will you be happier at your new school? That should be the only factor influencing your decision. Don't live for the future; live for the present.

i transferred to a private school my sophomore year. and it really depends on how you did in your public school. and how attached you are with your friends. if you are a guy then i would say go for it. because guys, in my opinion don't really care about friends and memories. Well i mean they do...but its just easier for them to form the same relations with other guys. GIRLS, on the other hand..its way different.WAY. I transferred because i wasn't doing up to my potential in the public school. but it really sucked. Talking with your friends about stupid teachers stupid incidents and just everything from back when you were 5..that was really hard for me to get over. I am a junior now and i guess it for the best that i am in this private school and will get into a good college..blahblahblah...I'll probably be happy about it in the future. but right now i wish i still went to the public school. I am probably going back my senior year, to well, enjoy. I am just going to lie and say we had some financial issues. because that looks retarded to colleges. but if you want my advice... i think i need more information about the situation.

Don't base this decision off of college admissions.
Base it on if you think you will be more successful, challenged, and happy at the new school.

    That's my two cents.

going to a really hard private school makes it harder to get in somewhere.
I go to St. Mark's in Dallas, and you need to be in the top 15 out of about 160 students to get into the Ivies.

way easier to be in the top 5 percent at a less competitive public school.

however, tough private schools have great intellectual atmospheres, and I enjoy my school.

I think college admissions staffs are pretty savvy about schools. They don't simply look at GPA and rank (lots of schools don't rank their students at all). They know that a 4.5 GPA at one school is not the same as a 4.5 at another. You really shouldn't worry about the numbers. Your story will be much more than that, and colleges like Rice know that.
