Rice Supplement Essay

So I'm starting on my Rice supplement essay and I have absolutely no clue what to write about. I keep thinking about vague/cliche topics like my religion, my struggle with my mother, etc. Help?

I would suggest starting off with a story about an experience you had, whether it was a long-term thing or a single minute that was very memorable in your life, and use that to transition into talking about something that is a big part of your life, or has made a big impact on your life. For example, I wrote about how certain experiences I had growing up led me to consider charitable work important and honorable.

Idk. I wrote about how I loved music and science. Then I described how I got involved in these activities in high school and related them to Rice U.

Dude you don't have to realte them to Rice!

Just show that you are a unique, interesting individual.

The question asks what perspectives and eperiences would you contribute to Rice university?

just show that you are a unique, interesting person, you don't have to say exactly how youll contribute to rice

I wrote about three stages of my life, my childhood in a country farming village, my later childhood in one of the most populous cities in the world, and my life at a very rigorous high school where we have classes from eight in the morning until nine in the afternoon. Then I wrote about how those different experiences have shaped me and wrote that this unique attitude towards life is what I'll bring to Rice. It sounds long, but it was only one and a half pages double-spaced

Chiclerosa you have classes from 8am-9am and you think that is rigorous?....lol I'm sure it's a typo, just giving you a hard time!

Anyways, I wrote about my experiences in the film industry, and more specifically how I have directed several indie movies, and how I hope to contribute creativity, and more to Rice's student body...

Advice: Don't over think it, just let the words flow. Explain what you bring to the table, and I'm sure you'll do fine.

Anyone else applying as a transfer?

The main thing to remember is to show your true self and your true passions in your essay. Don't pretend to be something you aren't - the admissions committee will see through that; if you give them your true self, they'll be able to see your substance. Just try your best and you'll be fine!
