Orchestra for non-majors

Are there opportunities for non-majors to play in a string or symphony orchestra at Rice?

I'd like to keep playing violin as an extracurricular, but I'm afraid that everything will just be limited to the l33t music majors from Sheppard Music instead of being open to the average joe like myself.

It's the Campanile Orchestra, and it's quite a talented orchestra. Another option open to you (and I'm admittedly biased here, as I was the drum major last year...) is the Marching Owl Band. They're called the MOB, they dress like gangsters, you need absolutely no band experience to join, they play cool arrangements of modern music, it's a lot of fun and very low pressure, they've got an awesome director, and they have non-traditional instruments as well, like violin, bass guitar, keyboards, and even a cello. =)

Check it out: http://mob.rice.edu/
Private message me if you've got any questions about the band, as I'd decidedly be able to answer them. It was really a blast.

My D (the Diva and a snob) says the Campanile orchestra is terrible. I'm sure I would think it sounded great.
